Car buffer recommendations

Wanting to get a car buffer/polisher but not sure what one to go for, I have read a lot about the porter cable7424 but understand you need to change the plug and a cable/transformer, does anybody have one or something similar?????

Any good mate... that is a lot cheaper than the old porter cable and the good old fashioned plug and play too lol, no messing around amending and adapting.

Is it easy to use, just the design of the porter cable seems so different to the ones I have looked at!

It is a bit chunky compared to the PC but if you are going to detail your car every few weeks/months then I would go for the cheaper one, if you were detailing cars every day then you'd want something more comfortable.

Other than that, it comes with a 3 year warranty, has a variable speed and I've found the results are pretty good.

For a set of 3 pads you are looking at around another £24-£30

The risk of the silverline and other rotary's is that it's easier to damage your paintwork if you're a beginner. It spins in a set circle, thus generating a greater degree of heat in a specific area.

The dual action sander/polishers spin randomly, so they don't focus on the same area, allowing for a greater degree of error when starting out.

EDIT: That'll teach me not to look at the links! I thought you linked to the silverline rotary. 125mm backing plate... that's like 3" isn't it? Would take an age to do a whole car!?!

cant do wrong with a UDM (ultra detailing machine) especially if your a beginner as it seems to be a little more forgivining than some machine polishers. it may take a little longer but still gets good results, have a look at the threads i have posted in the detailing section (mainly the bmw and saxo (my first detail with a UDM thread))

Well since it's meant for removing scratches and swirls on hardwood floors I would say it has at least as much power as a G220 ;)

And personally I only do correction work maybe once a year and glaze every 6 months.
