car feels sluggish after cam belt fitted?

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
just got the 172 back from renault last week after they changed all my belts, car now feels slightly sluggish, is this a problem when renault do them, have they retarded the timing on my car, anyone notice this before, cheers guy's

Renault are retarded not your timing!!! With cam timing its either right or destroys your engine. The only power sapping thing i can think of is that they have over tensioned the belt does it whine at all?

Not true! you can actually give or take a tooth or two on the cam pulleys/crank pulley i know because ive changed many including my own and haven't got it right first time!

I believe the cam tensioner on the clio is spring loaded and has a lock nut to hold it in place so overtightning shouldn't be a problem

Someone else on here had simerler symptoms on here not long ago IIRC after a cam belt change.

I expect the cams are out, they dont blow engines if they are a couple of teeth out.
When ever I do a belt I always turn it over twice by hand and make sure the cam locking tool and crank pin always go in, that way you know its spot on.
I expect that was never done.

I had a similar problem on a g40 years ago, belt was 1 tooth out, car felt like it had lost 50hp.
Garage said it tested ok, so i complained, they refitted belt & road tested again.
Guy who roadtested car said it was twice as quick & shat himself when he floored it.........

Complain, complain until you get it sorted........................
