Car starting to use coolant...

  RB 182 cup
I've noticed my car is starting to use coolant, in around 2 1/2 weeks it's dropped from max to just under min mark after already topping it up, is the start of the head gasket been on its way? The coolant itself is still clean and no signs of any oil in it and the oil is still very clean with no signs on water in it. My heaters still warm up quickly which I know is another sign of an head gasket going. Would be helpful if anyone knows what it could be.

cheers Blane

Any mayo under the oil cap? run your finger inside the water bottle and see it's clean or not. if any is a bit white etc then Gasket dude.

Also worth checking the plastic joints to the rad they can split and leak slowly ( new rad as they do not come separate )

No mate all oil and water is clean, I'll give it a good look over to see if I can see anywhere where it might be leaking

waterpump, common on that engine

Water pump was new about 2 months ago mate. I had a quick look under the car earlier and saw some coolant on the bottom of the sump. So just need to source where it is coming from so must be a leak somewhere...

Where a outs on the sump? Very easy for it leaking out the pump to end up there. What pump was fitted? Cheap rubbish or Renault?

Pretty much where the sump plug is, I'll try and get it jacked up tomorrow and have a better look. I'm not too sure on what pump was fitted, it was a family friends garage that do all my work, I can't imagine him buying cheap rubbish, he normally buys decent stuff. I'll have a word with him and see if he will have a quick look for me

had similar to mines, problem is that all the plastics under the car can mean theres not a clean drip onto ground, best up on a ramp and take of covers and see if you can see anything. mines turned out to be waterpump, bit £££ - but my own fault for not getting it done with dephaser - lesson learned

Cheers mate, it looks like the leak is coming from around near the oil filter area, not too sure where about it is actually coming from as its quite hard to see, do you think something like radseal may do the trick if its just a slight leak just as a temporary measure until I get chance to take it to a garage

i tried radweld and didnt do a thing, i heard that kseal is a much better product tho if you can get your hands on it. Thank said from what I understand most people would advise against as it can cause more problems than its worth, but heyho I tried it so can't judge - anything to keep costs down I suppose
