car still running like crap, please help

hi, basically when i turn my williams on the revs will sit at up over 1000 for a couple of minutes, then it drops right down and chugs chugs chugs before shooting up tbuger all  over 1000 then it does the same chug chug chug as if its gonny cut out, when its chugging its taking alot of air into the k+n.

ive just replaced the ignition leads and took the ICV out and gave it a good clean and its done bugger all :-(

also sometimes when im driving along the revs will drop too and then it pulls away again as if its on an elastic band, this has been doing this for ages and its now driving me mad, it also revs up and down when i pull up to a junction or traffic lights, without my foot even near the pedal, any help will be appreciated, i dont really want to have to take it to a garage and get ripped off, so any help would be great

thanks

Tony

nope dont think so although it had a service about 2 months ago, would it be replaced then, it was only the 60,000 one, do you think it could be the carburattor or however u spell it lol

maybe try replacing the idle valve first.leave the battery disconnected for 10mins before you plug in the new valve.

sounds a it like what deans was doin ealier tonite, sounded mental, were all standin around chattin whilst its warmin up, itll chug as if goin to cut out, then will rev!! as if someone has just hit the Gas to rev it. bit eery lol.

Tiger - Try replacing the lambda sensor on the car. I know 2 people (one with a Williams and the other with a 16v) who had this exact same problem cured by replacing the lambda sensor.

BB Tuning should be able to do it if you live in the Essex area.

miles away in scotland, i did think it was maybe the lambda as i had similaer problems with my xr2i ill get my mates dad whos a mechanic to check it out b4 i go spending, but i think its prob gonny be this icv or the lambda, thanks for the replies ;)
