No, phoned someone from the DVLA and asked this, aparently there is a totally different offence which is not displaying you tax disc, so you wouldn't be driving without tax or insurance, but would be doing the above. Annoying i know.
Yes, just say you applied for it and it's maybe got held up in the post!
If you were to get stopped you would have your dated online receipt/invoice anyway so you could always print that off and make sure no credit card details are showing and keep it with you if you're that worried!!!!
There is no exemption for driving a motor vehicle on the road because your excise licence has been stolen or not arrived yet - in this instance you would be liable for committing an offence of failure to display a current tax disc.
its just that i brought a new car, and the cover note hadnt came yet, so i cudnt do it at the post office. so i thought if i do it online i can drive it. but i guess i'll have to wait for the cover note.
I've driven mine without receiving the disk enough times, they have computers in the cars that check you're vehicle is taxed so aslong as you have tax on the car you'll be ok. If you dont receive it the most they would probably do is a producer, if you dont receive the disk within 7 days take in a copy of the invoice to show its paid for.
