Car to Car comms!!?

  Twingo Dynamique
Ok i think i'm in the right section, here we go;

So we've all seen topgear (i'm presuming) and when they have their drive across wherever it may be, they have their radios for general banter between the 3 of them...

So i'm just wondering, what do you actually need to get? are they expensive? and are they easy to install!!

It just seems like a pretty awesome thing to be able to talk freely between you and your mates when out driving, without phones etc... :D

(especially road trips and convoys!! :p )

well i'm guessing they are just vhf radios, the conventional "walkie-talkie" tends to have miniscule range, and especially through cars.

to have more than two radios going at once all on same frequency/channel... would you need to use same brand? there doesnt seem to be anywhere stating what frequencies each brand use for their channels... and i'd be very much surprised if they are all made to be the same!! thats why i'm thinking the more expensive, but more useful solution would be a proper vhf...

  clio sold :(
Go for the walkies.
I currently have 3 CB radios in my shed tried one out on my car for a while got like 2 ppl talking traffic and loads of crossed radios!
Put another in my mates car was fun didnt get great distance and the novelty wears off after a couple of days.
The 2 metre ariels stick out and then come off over 90 :/ good idea for convoy tho.

You can use different brands we did as long as the frequencies are the same they are fine you don't have to spend a lot either

The w/t VHF radios (like you see on the building sites, security, etc) need a licence here in the UK and possibly elsewhere, (about £60 a year) so don't wave 'em around at the rozzers, the walkie talkies will have a range of two or three miles in mixed terrain.

yeah, well as a sailor and often safety crew it's probably about time i get a vhf license... but for this stuff w/t s look about right! also looks like you can get a hand speaker/mic for added effect ;) :D

Any half decent PMR446 type radio will do just fine. I've got a couple of expensive Alinco ones from my Airsoft days along with some really really cheap Binatone ones, bought via eBay, £22 for a set of four with a desktop charger.

The Binatone ones get use far more, capable and pretty much indestructible.
