Carbon Canister 182 change aahhhh!

  RENAULTSPORT 182
Ok, my tappet noise is getting louder and after some really useful help from forum users, i've decided to change my carbon canister as the bloody tappet sounding noise is getting louder and pissing me off by the minute.....been thinking its the hydraulic tappets playing up, so me changing the canister first to see if its that hopefully.
Advice please.... is the carbon canister easy to change? can I only get one from the dealership? do i need any specialised tooling? bugger I have no decent garages around here in MK that would help me, so do it myself if I can.......any help with this would be really cool.....

Its not the canistor that make the noise its the solinoid that connects to the top of it. Theres a large thread on how to rip it out somewhere as its not needed so save some money and just remove it!

My carbon cannister ticked..I changed it myself (and Im a girl..lol) you just take the o/s wheel off take the arch liner out and you can reach the cannister from there.
It has 3 bolts holding it in undo them and it has 2 tubes going to it...they have clips on which you need to squeeze together and pop off...then you just reverse the process to replace it.
You might want to know though that when I changed my carbon cannister (which cost about £60) it did NOT stop the ticking. It only stopped when I changed the o2 sensor (before cat) which I though was totally unrelated.
I found out this was the problem after putting the car on a diagnostic machine.

interested thread going to keep an eye on your results, got a similar ticking sound coming from the drivers side arch area, definitely not the hydraulic lifters as its not coming from that area in the bay. Can any tech genius (fred where are you) explain what the carbon thing actually does/ why it would make such a noise?

what is the carbon canister connected to? If it's vacuum from engine then make sure you don't leave vacuum tubes loose (i.e. drawing air into the engine)

US / California spec motorcycles all have these, they seem to be for higher temperature countries to prevent fuel evaporating.

Not for engine emissions at all, its the evaporative emissions from the fuel tank ie. the fuel vapour.

US legislation is even stricter then EU and now requires ORVR (Onboard Refueling Vapour Recovery). Basically not only does the fuel vapour from the fuel tank need to be captured but also the vapour that comes off while refueling needs to be captured in the canister. You should see the size of the latest canisters for US!!!
