Caster and Camber

Having i now have the bc solid top mounts,i have the option of camber or caster set up.

Whats the pros and cons of both please.I guess ideally best to have the mounts on full caster and the dampers set with a bit of camber??

Just road weekend toy set up so nothing to hardcore

I’d get someone who knows what they’re doing to dial her in mate. Being honest.

You don’t want anything too aggressive for road use.

Agree with the above.

I tried to get my usual garage to do a nice track setup and they really struggled with the castor/camber balance on the top mounts.

For reference, I have 3.4deg negative and it's a pig on the road but it only really drives to the track.

Personally, I would leave the solid mounts in and get camber bolts (if you really want more camber),they will give you about 2.6 negative from memory.

I have the top mounts in already on max camber, but i do have some camber bolts in the shed i could add for some extra camber adjustment if needed.

So caster is more track suited i take it.

To be honest, I'm not sure on caster.

Mine has some additional but only because the garage set the mounts up badly.

If I was using mine only for fast road use, I'd stick with solid top mounts and not worry about it.

I'm not sure additional camber on the road made much difference tbh.

I think I miss understood your initial post though, I read it as you had both solid and adjustable mounts.

I thought positive caster beneficial was quite beneficial because it effectively increases negative camber on the outside wheel during turns.

Because of that you have either more maximum negative camber than just from camber bolts or you could run less static negative camber which is probably what you'd want for a road car?

Sounds like more is better really which it probably isn't, but that is where my limited knowledge ends.

Yea this.

Camber bolts and go full castor. If on track anyway.

I use max caster (centre of top mount as far back in the turret as possible) and camber right in the middle of the turret. With caster you get the benefit of camber when you need it (when turning the wheel) without camber's drawbacks, which are less contact patch in a straight line and potential increased tyre wear on the inside edge. For the road you don't need to add any more camber.

Caster also gives you more self-centring and makes the steering heavier.
