catalytic converter

Just realised something strange. While under my car fitting my exhaust I noticed there was a pair of nuts and bolts just before the cat.

Looking at the pictures of the de-cat pipe for the 172 the pipe just runs from the cat to the manifold.

My question is are standard cat pipes on the 172s in two pieces? Just I always thought it was the one.

I appreciate my description is probably a little confusing but I'll get a picture of what I'm talking about when it stops raining.

Sounds like at some point its had a prospeed decat. They cut your standard cat in two... so thet you only have to swap the cat bit over come mot time, rather than the fiddly bolts that are hidden away up under the front of the car towards the mani changing the whole lot.

Did that make sense?

I had one on my old track car.

I had the decat pipe to fit it left over, but as its useless without the car and rest of the decat it went to scrappy.

If id have known id have sent it you!
