catcams and turbo

IIRC, the standard cam profile is best used with the turbo kits. Not entirely sure why but I'm sure someone will be along to explain shortly.

I think the inlet cam can be rather wild. Problem from what I understand beeing that wilder N/A cams tend to have more overlap = inlet and exhaust valves open at the same time and in a F/A setup this will cause some of the overpressure to be lost as it slips out through the open exhaust valve.

But thats as I understood it.

For turbo, you want stock / low duration, but high lift camshaft. Catcams generally sell 1 high performance turbo orientated camshaft per engine series. Not sure about F4R though as ive not checked.

Your right Godspeed.

Scott save your cash mate, there are loads of other ways of geting more power from a turbo setup without resorting to changing the cams. Scoff has proved that the stock ones will flow over 450bhp.

However if you are insistent on getting a set speak to Craig (Stan*) at APdevelopments and have him run over some custom options with you.

If i was looking to do a cheap turbo build without the cost of fully forged internals then I'd fit a set of either F4R (not 1*2 but the lower comp ones found in meganes/laguna etc..) as they'll give you a 10:1 compression ratio this will allow you to put more boost through than with the standard 11.1:1 ratio and should easily exceed the current low pressure setups or go as far as fitting F4RT pistons which bring it down even further to 9 or 9.5 (can't remeber off the top of my head).

Obviously some people on here will tell you the rods and pistons will never take it etc... but they've never actually tried it, others have seen how far you can push stock internals with suprisingly good results.

Drop me a PM if you want a more detailed explanation.

Steve
