One of the two is correct for the age of the car, but not for the changer, which incidentally is from a '55 182 anyway so should fit!? What's becoming clear is either a: Renault use this change of stuff as a way to market / confuse completely, or and b: the parts / changers are not from the aforementions vehicles originally.
The most logical reason - going on the changer works with my Update and the bracket (new shape) - is the changer is missing the side brackets once attached to it.

Yes, looks like it's been modified. Maybe that's the answer, although I'm sure theres a standard fit one for this type of changer without the side mountings otherwise Renault would have had to do similar on every install pre '05.
Also just checked - I've tried two changers - the '55 one I'm fitting and an '01 version - both work with the Update, including centre display.

I know but I mean the one with just the right-angled sides that doesn't need the changer side brackets. Most of the factory fitted changers are pre '05 when it changed so there has to be a bracket for them, surely?
Both the '01 and '55 changers are exactly the same in size and both had the mounting holes on the side as per pre and post change mounts.
The footplan of the 182 has never changed, but the CD changer range and the way its mounted (no side clips, with side clips) has so the 2 mounting holes at the front and the single screw at the back under the seat have remained the same, therefore, logically there must be two different brackets.

There is 2 brackets, as you've shown in your original pictures.
As i understand it, when you buy the changer brand new it comes with the side brackets so you can fit them if required. If you were fitting the changer onto the bracket (B) then my guess is it's for a different car, possibly Megane etc?
If you're fitting it to bracket (A) as you are, then you would fit the side brackets and it all would slot together.
There's probably numerous different brackets out there all specific to a different model of car, meaning the changer will fit them all.

All makes sense to me. If there's not another bracket it means every Clio with factory fitted underfloor CD changers pre '05 are "homemade" with either similar to benclelland or hard screwed into the floorplan with the incorrect part, like the other bracket my photo. I find this highly unlikely.

I just can't believe no one else as had issues like this, or is it hardly anyone has changers.
Fitted the changer from a ph1 172 today into my ph2 172.
Wire - Dead easy rather than messing with carpets and the centre console I ran the cable along the plastic skirting around the door. Across the bottom of the dash. This isnt a dash off job like stated in other threads. The wire was dead easy to route to the back of the HU. I'm really pleased witht the results as at no point can the wire be seen. Couple of cable ties keep it all in place.
Bracket - This is where the fun starts. The bracket fits brilliantly under the passenger seat. The bracket came from Renault for £8.51, but its only the plate section. You cant order the actual brackets that actually attach to the changer. They come with the changer unit at £190! The parts guy rang Renault UK and they confirmed this..
I did think about making up my own bracket, but for ease I've tried some super strength velcro and attached it down to the plate. If it stays on there I'll leave it. If it comes away I'll get my drill out.
My advice would be if you buy a Alpine changer unit and it comes with the bracket make sure its from the phase you've got. The ph1 doesnt require any further brackets if you end up with a ph2 for a ph1.
