CD Changer in 172

I am looking to buy a new after market Headunit for my mk 2 Clio Sport.

Is it in anyway possible to use the existing CD Changer that came with the car with the new HU?

Any help will be greatly received!!!

Ive just replaced my factory head unit and changer... even though its badged as Alpine, apparently the Renault factory one is "Alpine-OEM" and has different connectors/controls etc.

Having said that, when I swapped it out for the new one (Alpine CHA-S634 MP3 version) is looks remarkably similar apart from a bolt on interface which may look like if removed will work with a normal Alpine Head unit - Ill take it apart tomorrow and let you know.

Change your speakers first... makes a MASSIVE difference! I got JBL components up front and Infinity 2-ways in the rear. (Theyre made at the same factory).

Thanks for that Batesyboy.

Let us know what you find, cause I have an amp and sub waiting to go in but I need to replace the HU first. Not too bothered about having no CD Changer but it would be nice! Did you fit your new changer under the passenger seat and if so was it easy enough to do?

Spk soon

Yeah, fitted into the nicely designed cradle exactly... the new Alpine unit even used the same fixings so it literally took about 2 minutes to swap. Routing the cables took "slightly" longer... getting the dash off was well hard and quite heartbreaking to see it all in a mess...!

Forgot to ask. What power and what inch are your speakers in both the front and the rear. These as you said are well worth replacing as I think the standard Renault set up in terms of speakers are a bit cack!!!

JBLs are 5.25", 75W RMS, 225W peak - model GTO505Ce

Infinitys are also 5.25" and 45W RMS, 135W peak - model 552i

Got an Alpine CDA-7893R head unit which pumps out 60W so all sounds quite good. The amps a digital monoblock 600W Alpine (one of the new ones) with a 10" Alpine dual-voicecoil sub.

Just gotta wire up the amp so all the talk on here about grommet holes is coming in very useful! Managed to get the stalk control think working at last; Cost me £60 extra for the bits but had to do it; some of the buttons have swapped functions. Apparently you can move pins around to customise it but Im not sure I can be arsed to take the dash out again!
