central locking MK1

My reciever (Bit by the sunroof handle) has blown because of a leak through the sunroof and therefore the central locking does not work. i was just wondering if anyone knows how much a new reciever is and does it have to be program to your key??? i was told by renault that you can use a reciever from any car and it will work but i tried my dads and it didnt so any advice will be apriciated.

Sure its blown?

Mine stopped working, so I dried it out.. got me electrical cleaner out and cleaned it - good as new!

I was told £110 i think for a new receivor, as you have to have a new central locking unit bit.. and a new key thats programmed for it. (back when i had my 1.4)

Yea.. there is, just clean it! hehe.. could just be shorting out.

Worth saving £110 innit?

the reciever in the roof is just that.all it does is recieve the key signals and its just a case of buy one and plug it in.you dont need to reset the immobiliser etc as the reciever part is not coded.£110-dont think their that much now.

Just goto a scrappy and get one, if it IS broken..

Id still clean it first, however.. heh, always worked for me!

any clio reciever should fit.the only problem i can see is if you try a reciever off a vehicle with an immobiliser and fit it to a vehicle without an inmmobiliser there is a chance it wouldnt work.get a reciever of a car that is a similiar year to yours.

mine and my dads cars bout have inmmobilisers and are 3 years apart, i dont wanna buy one from a scrappy only to find it aint gunna work

no but i will tomorrow, good idea mate. will be nice to be able to lock my car again. by the way its not totally f**ked! up close the reciever works, but not from outside the car or from 50cm away, strange huh?

No! Thats what mine did - definetly water damage.

Get cleaning it.. and itll work again.. Mine did exactly the same.

Thats what I did. Gave it a good clean, around all the contacts.

Be careful tho, you dont need to break ought!

thats why i suggested trying it in his dads to make sure the reiever is faulty and not something else because he said his dads reciever didnt work in his car and i think it should.

HOW MUCH FOR A CENTRAL LOCKING KEY FOB?!!!!

I now only have 1 key to get into the car! i have no locks and now am jus relyin a the oh so realible french designed central lockin of the Mk1

dont rely too much mate, f**king sh*t!! sorry dont know how much but i think seeing as your not going to use it in the locks you might be able to use another second hand key and get it programmed, whats the plip battery

Yea, best thing I did was get a Clifford - relying on that standard fob to get in got rediculous!

So no one knows how much a key fob is going to cost and where is can be bought from? I only have one key and am worried that if i loose that then i will be in trouble.

Well, yea, cus you have a Mk1 Phase3 you have to keep the standard imobilisor too, cus its linked to the ECU.

So you have to get in using Clifford, then unarm the factory immobilisor before you can start the car. But when you zap the standard plip inside, it usually works.. heh.

Dunno bout cheap - I wanted a CAT1.

I have a mk3 1.2 Clio, which when it came had no central locking as it was a basic model, but I went and bought the MicroScan alarm and was recommended to get the additional central locking kit which works a treat. The whole lost cost £85 to buy but I had it fitted so I could get my insurance reduced.

Might be something to investigate as a cheap alteranative as it also means you have a Fully Thatcham protected car then

Also means you wont have to pay the monkeys at your local renault dealer for replacement keys, as the alarm comes with remotes.

Renault charge £30 just for a plain key with no electronics on board and I am pretty sure the key with the electronics on is about £50. But to be fair I think it may just be my local renault dealer as there are a bunch of clowns.

Hope this helped

I still have to use my original key to disarm the standard immobilisor - its linked into the ECU.

Ah yer, there is that, thats one of the reasons I went for the Car I did with no electronics as they tend to be a bugger when they go wrong.

I was warned off getting a Renault with the remote central locking especailly one with sunroofs as for some reason Renault havent cottoned on that there sunroofs tend to leak.

Yea, annoying.

1992 -> 1998 all sunroofs leaked - between 3 phases. Silly.

I wrapped my receiver up in a plastic bag at one point.. worked a treat!

Hehe, mine didnt.

Its the plastic surround which lifts away from the roof - have to seal it with silicone. My silicone has come away tho, so I get a shower sometimes.. need to get it in the garage for a bit and seal it up.
