Central Locking on Mk1

i was wondereding how to get central locking on my 1993 mk1.

it hasnt got an alarm or an immobiliser, so i dunno, what the situation is.

after seeing baylisses mk1, which is about 2/3 years newer than mine, i want central locking.

will my car have the motors in place or anything?!

how much am i looking at?

Ta

You could get all the central locking parts of a clio with central locking but you still need to wire it up unless you swap the wiring looms as well. Probably the cheapest option would be to get one of those aftermarket central locking kits as they include all door moters, wiring looms and the central locking unit all for about £80. You can also get plips for them or wire them up to alarms etc.

ouch £80

im still wondering what bondy was on about

if it was cheaper, id do it!

but not 80quid, no point.

is that the cheapest way Jay?

The only other way is by fitting the central door locking system of another clio. How much this costs depends on how much you can get all the parts for.

well if i could pick em up of bondy, how much would it cost for it to be fitted?

how much for to fit both leccy window and central locking motors?

depends on who does it and how.for example are you going to fit the wiring looms of another clio as well as the moters etc or are you going to have to make up your own looms.

looks alright

bear in mind it wont do your boot if your car is a 5dr.

or, alternatively if its a 3 dr, which it looks like, youll have one spare.

also consider the fact that it doesnt look to be remote central locking, which it may be if you get the kit off a clio

yeah, i know, but i can get a remote for it.

problem is i wouldnt know where to start to fit this!

how much you rekon for a garage, or somewhere to do it?

Ta

Easiest option is to get the wiring looms and locking components from an RT and fit that. IIRC the looms for central locking are already in the car, you just need the ones for the door. and you could grab a sensor etc aswell, all you need is a scrap yard or a breakers yard !! Easy enough to fit, if i can do it !!

dont the central locking looms go into the dash wiring loom though. Did you change that or just make up your own section.

I havnt done anything, its just that all the looms on the non central locking ones ive seen seem to have the looms inside the car that the door loom plugs into !!

hehe, lads, i have no ideas what your on about..!

if i bought one of them kits, how much am i looking at for fitting, and a sensor?

its bayliss fault! after seein his, i want it!

Have you ever looked to see if there is a connector in the roof for the remote reciever? If the main dash looms are the same then it could just be a case of fit door looms and the parts like you say.

i dunno wots in the car at the moment, i doubt theres any motors, or sensors or anything, i mean... its 13 yrs old

anyone know anyone who could fit it for me, at a good price?

Ta, Ian

Seriously have a look !! Because i have a funny feeling that the looms for the 1.2 and RT are the same and that theyll just use the bits up on an RT !! like you can fit an RT dash and the rev counter works etc !! The looms for the electric windows and central locking are in the car and just not in the door !!

Have a look to see if the sensor looms are there !! If they are get the bits from a scrapped RT and ill fit em, depending on where in the country you are !

oki doki craig, this is gunna sound aboslutely daft on a car forum, but wot am i lookin for, and where..?

let me off, im dumb and drunk!

of the bits that expect to be there... are there... where do i go from there?

See if there are any wires running upto and around the internal light that might be to do with the sensor !! take photos if you are unsure

no wires to from the doors at all, and i could see much around the the internal light. covered in carpet! hahhaa

im from chesterfield junction 29 m1. so can you see any wires to the vehicle A post at the bottem, about a similiar level to where the check strap bolts. look down the gap between the car and the door. is there a connector on the car but nothing on the door.

when i looked, (its dark now and the clios blocked behin mi mums car) i opened the door, and where the hinge is... ( is that where i should be lookin) there are only the hindges, no wires or owt like that. theres a rubber plug on the door, i assume u can run wires thru that?

but its probably gunna cost me a right packet!

yes thats where i mean.if there is no visible connector(with a blanking plate over it) on the vehicle pillar then the dash loom wont have the wiring for the central locking. How about looking on the vehicle interior side of the pillar.

i wish i was technically minded, im lost again, n i dont know much about cars!

haha, sorry

if i bought one of those kits... wud it work? and how much am i lookin at?

Ta Jay

the kits are universal so work on any vehicle. fitting could cost from £40>£50 to fit all wiring and door motors etc.

so buy the kit then 40/50 for fitting?

how much for a plipper? for remote central locking?

hahah goin overboard na!
