Central Locking Problems

Hi, I'm new to this forum but in need of quite desperate help. I own an R reg 1.2 Rn Clio. The central locking will not appear to work correctly.

When you fire the remote at the sensor from outside this will not unlock the car, instead you need to turn the key and then once in fire the remote directly at the sensor really near in order to mobilise the car.

I have changed the battries but not sure what else this could be. Can anyone help?

Your car has the earlier type of remote control that employs an infrared link between the key and the sensor.

If you are able to disengage the immobiliser, even if it means getting close up, then the receiver is working.

I think you have two separate problems.

Range: this could be battery related, check the batteries you have installed, individually with a volt meter.

Cental locking: you could have a separate fault causing this. Do the usual checks on fuses.

I think from memory, the locking control module is behind the centre console, it should be a small red box about the size of 20 king size.

You will need a voltmeter or test lamp to check this out. How competent are you with a cars electrics ?

Thanks for the info mate. I am reasonably competent. I'll check all these things you have mentioned at the weekend and see how i get on! Hopefully it may just be the locking control module. The battreys have been replaced twice.

Another note i should've mentioned is that water gets in through the sunroof and appears to get into the electrics. This is probably the cause of all this trouble. It is now fully sealed though!

Water and electrics are not a good mix.......The best of luck. If you get stuck, PM me.

After abit of messing about. It appears that the central locking does work. What the problem is is that when you go to fire the remote from outside the car nothing will happen.

Instead, you need to unlock the car with the remote and then get in and then fire the remote directly at the sensor (almost touching) by the sunroof to lock and then unlock the car so that it is mobilised.

Any answers to what this maybe?

Keith, you need to pull your receiver out, from infront of the sunroof, and clean all the electrics with a FINE wire brush, and maybe a spray of electrical cleaner.

My old RT had to virtually touch the door window to plip it, did that^^ and it worked a few yards away.

Then re-seal it all like you said after a good clean.
