Central locking stopped working and now i cant lock car

wondering if any 1 could help?
my mate has a clio 54 reg and he just got home from work and tried to lock his car but the central locking wudnt work and now he cant lock his car beacause the locking system dosnt work.
Any one know what could of casued this and if there is any thing he can do about it?
