Certain radar detectors to be banned

  172 Cup

lol July 16th.. Hardly recent news is it!

I wouldnt panic yet, just because the government wants to introduce a enw law doesnt necessarily mean it will happen.

I have to say that it is perfectly fair. Firstly GPS systems are far better than any "detectors" and they will remain legal. As has been mentioned many times before, laser detectors are a complete waste of time and are more of a rip off than the cameras themselves.

I do find it funny when I hear that the police to do not have enough "real" cameras to fill all of their camera housings. Where the bloody hell have all the speeding fines gone?!?!?

To be honest, if they stopped detectors it would render the b2 pretty much useless as nearly all fixed cameras are very obvious now that they are yellow. Its the hand held devices its more useful against.

so am i right in thinking that an origin b2 & a road angel will be banned ?

as im interested in getting one, but theres no point if they b*stards are going to ban them.

b2 will be fine as you can remove the detector part and keep the GPS part. The Road Angel is all in one so that cant be done. Maybe covering the sensor or something would be enough.

damm !!
im still going to get one, how will they know what you have ??
i guess they have to pull you ?

u can just hide your B2 laser detector part in the grill at the front of the car. then nobody can see it and its in the best position.

the actual B2 device wont become illegal.

The article says the following which means that as far as I know means both the Origin B2 and Road Angel will still be legal - Have a read

A Department for Transport document outlining the proposed ban states that it will “prohibit the carriage of devices that either actively inhibit the proper function of a speed camera or detect the presence of functioning speed cameras (as opposed to dummy housings)”.

The B2 and RA2 dont inhibit the function of speed cameras nor do they tell you if the speed camera is working or not.......correct me if Im wrong

i like how they call them accident blackspot identifiers - b****cks. They are just a way to stop getting caught!

i know a few places they have speed cameras that were not accident blackspots before

i dissagree, since ive had my B2 ive been much more aware of the speed that im doing. i can honestly say that my speed has dropped since fitting the device.

Thanks,

See I know this probably make no sense but I bought a Road Angel 2 this week from Has 16v....(good deal)....anyway I phoned the following people to check their legality

1 - Road Angel / Blackspot themselves

2 - Origin

3 - 2 coppers (1 normal one and 1 traffic)

To which all replied they are fully legal, I even phoned Road Angel 4 times asking to speak to various technical staff.

Also lets face it look how long its taking this government to pass a law on hunting!!!!! Hasnt this been going on for about 10 years now??

Agreed to a point. Im all for cameras outside schools and in spots where pointless lives have been lost due to poor road design etc.. but sticking cameras on straight deserted dual carriageways is purely a money making excercise.

Lets face it Staffs Police must be raking the cash in from their cameras...........

Its is officially the most densly safety camera area in the country.

I heard theyre just gonna ban radar jammers. I wouldnt worry.

Thats correct, all the GPS based ones will still be ok.

"Devices that use satellite-positioning systems to give drivers early warning of a speed camera will remain legal"

yeh thats exactly what im meaning, theres a few roads where I stay that have cameras where they are not really needed but roads where there have been a number of accidents dont have them
