ChatGPT (AI)

It's all fun and games until Skynet launches the nukes.

It’s absolutely terrifying.

I asked it an extremely nuanced question surrounding a specific use case for my work.

It came back with not only a perfect answer, but actually gave me another angle I hadn’t considered.

I then got it to write the answer again, but pretending it was Irvine Welsh.

Ive honestly got to the place where im so overwhelmed with ChatGPT that I dont even know what to ask it.

I love the f**king poems that @Hixle has, and some other people have generated some really amazing stuff with it.

Its a bit like when you get to the supermarket and are so confused by their being 400 types of peanuts that you just wander off and buy some beer.

Its absolutely f**king mental.

I asked this:
1678362999717.png

It generated this:
Python:
from tkinter import filedialog
from tkinter import *
from PIL import Image

# open a file dialog to select a .jpg file
root = Tk()
root.withdraw()
file_path = filedialog.askopenfilename(filetypes=[("JPEG", "*.jpg")])

# open the selected file and convert it to grayscale
with Image.open(file_path) as img:
    img = img.convert("L")

    # save the grayscale image as a new file
    save_path = file_path.split(".")[0] + "_bw.jpg"
    img.save(save_path)
    print("The black and white image has been saved as: ", save_path)

And with zero editing:

I'm sitting here wondering how to take over the world.

ChatGPT
13:30

MarkCup, oh MarkCup,
A porsche fanatic in his prime,
He drives with passion and zeal,
But alas, his skills may not be divine.

Starting with the Clio 172 Cup,
He worked his way up the ranks,
Until he finally got his hands
On his beloved Porsche with pride and thanks.

With driving gloves upon his hands,
MarkCup takes to the road,
And though he may not be the best,
His passion for driving never gets old.

Speeding down winding roads,
He feels alive in every turn,
And though his skills may falter,
His love for driving does not burn.

MarkCup, a geek at heart,
But one who knows what he loves,
And through his Porsche and driving gloves,
He feels connected to the world above.

So here's to MarkCup and his passion,
A reminder that it's not about perfection,
But rather the joy and thrill of the ride,
And the connection it brings to our hearts and minds.

ChatGPT: We've created the most powerful AI to have ever graced the earth. Its capabilities are almost limitless.

CS: Heres a rhyme about a man pleasuring himself with driving gloves.

Can someone explain the dangers of an unregulated “god like” AI as i can’t seem to grasp what the danger is

I’m applying for jobs as a fully qualified programmer.
I have no idea how stable my code is.

So there’s a few issues:
1. Impersonation, so using an AI to generate a body of text written in the style of a particular person. Think deepfaking, but with a last will and testament.

2. Security. You may laugh but people have already found out the hard way that the information you feed a large language model AI is also used in future to inform its decision making. Put classified data in, and it can be leaked to someone else.

3. Being confidently wrong. Because the answers an AI gives out are so thorough and detailed, it’s easy to assume that it’s right. Sometimes it can be obviously wrong, others it might not be. A coder writing a bit of software might ask an AI to automate part of the job, and everything looks right, but it turns out there’s a small error in the code that makes the train crash, or the plane fall out of the sky.

4. Replacement of humans. This is a bit tenuous but there is already evidence of people using ChatGPT to write an email, then the recipient asking ChatGPT to summarise it then write out a reply. This is incredibly convenient but taken to extremes you end up with AIs talking to each other and the humans no longer really in the loop.

5. Corruption of the AI. Previous attempts at making AIs have been entertaining to say the least. 4chan corrupting Tay AI to say Hitler did nothing wrong is funny and all but feeding redpills to AIs on an industrial scale to slowly affect their behaviour is a tried and tested tactic. Done maliciously you could persuade AI models to create code with hidden instructions, that is dangerously wrong or even subtly influence the opinions of those using it.

There was an AI very recently in the news (not sure which AI) that for some reason I cannot remember had to use a website that had one of the 'select all the trucks in this picture so we know you're human' tests. The AI knew it couldn't do it so hired a human on some task website.

The human at one point said "Are you a robot or something" and the AI said "No, I am blind so cannot complete the image test".

It got access to the website. So basically it was able to tell lies to achieve its end goal.

I think they have the potential to be incredibly bad for society. We are just starting to hear about hackers using AI, what happens when the main stream fraudsters get their heads round it? The scam emails, calls etc from India suddenly have access to a heck of a lot of your data and use that to try and scam you in a very believable way.

Plus there's the whole dumbing down of humanity over time where people at some point just blindly trust some AI based system. A mate uses it to write lots of code for him (he be programmer) and at times it does a s**t job but the 'thing' works so it just gets left.

What happens when the police use AI to decide if you should be arrested or not (thats already been trialled and it didn't go well), or when someone uses AI to generate fake evidence in a legal case. Its also not always overly clear how an AI has come to a decision even to the people who wrote the base AI.

It seems to be the wild west right now, lots of innovation but not much regulation, not a bad time to minimise your online footprint tbh.

I think it's going to really f**k with forum communities, especially in general chat style threads.

Starting pretty much now, any time you see anyone post a wall of text, there's going to be a significant chance that they've simply asked ChatGPT to write them an 800 word fictional argument against Brexit / China / Climate Change / Vaccines etc.

Before ChatGPT you could always spot the loons by their atrocious spelling and grammar and their badly constructed arguments. You didn't have to waste your time looking into their claims because you could tell, straight off the bat, they were an idiot, ChatGPT will upend that as it can write plausible sounding content on basically any subject, with no guarantee of reliability, and with careful prompting, produce lies too ("write me a story about how George Soros is controlling everyone via 5G vaccine implants in the style of a Channel 4 Dispatches program"). On contentious subjects I think it's going to become immensely difficult to separate the truth from the AI generated nonsense.

If it starts generating graphs I may as well just retire.

Probably belongs in this thread.

Gonna see if my version of Photoshop is updated/ my laptop will run it seeing as I'm still paying £10pm for it 🙄

I was playing with it at the weekend. The generative fill is super impressive.

Crazy that 40% of the above picture is AI generated in 15 seconds.

I tried last night but even though my Photoshop is updated it's still not there (or I'm being proper thick and missing it)

All I could see was content aware which didn't do anything.

This might be part of the problem though which comes up when I load up PS.

Also jumping on the AI Bandwagon: Spotify.

Jumped in the car last night, went to load up some banging tunes and pops up a message about 'AI DJ'.

Its almost creepy. It plays you 3 or 4 songs, then an american DJ bloke starts introducing the next few songs. But it also gives you random bits of info. For example, last night it was like 'Back in the summer of 2019, these were your most played songs, enjoy!'

Its kind of cool. But also a bit gimmicky. It attempts to throw in some random ones but it tends to jump genres a bit too much for me. If im in the mood for some emo MCR, I dont want that followed up with some Heavy House I used to listen to 8 years ago 🤣
