cheap tips for abit more oooomph

  1.5 Clio Dynamique
i own a 1.2 renault clio and i was wondering if there were any good tips on getting abit more oomph out of the engine without spending a fortune. i know the 1.2s and performance dont go together but it would be nice just to get a little bit extra out of it

No such thing as 'cheap performance' on n/a cars mate.

The cheapest way to make n/a's faster is with brakes and suspension, taking corners faster is arguably more important than straight line speed unless all you car about is willy waving at the traffic lights.

Take everything that you dont need out, a set of buckets, coilovers and some DS2500 pads. You'll have far more fun and it WILL feel quicker.

Having your car remapped is the most cost effect way to increase performance. I didnt say it would be cheap but its the cheapest for what gain you get if you understand.

Other than that as said above, just take out whatever you dont need to reduce the weight like backseats.

It is important to note though that even a remap on 1.2 would make no real difference, it only adds like 5bhp to a sport.

Getting more horsepower out of an n/a car is not a cheap business. If you wanna do that sorta thing get yourself a turbo, an ibiza or something. A remap on an petrol ibiza FR adds 30-40bhp

Save your cash, buy a proper perfromance car of some description. No point in trying to mod slow boring models, sorry but it's the truth.

Not sure why you're comparing power gains to a sport, completely different engines etc so there is no correlation.

RS Tuning got an extra 8bhp out of a 1.2 16v I think by remapping it, which is pretty decent, 10% power gain.

It doesnt matter if you have 1bhp or 200bhp in a Clio, shed 80kgs and it WILL be quicker. It's science.

Aye.

Or you could try this...

I drove around without a passenger seat for a week in my mk1 1.2, made it more nippy. Completely strip it out, buy 11" steels that are very narrow but have just enough grip and thats as fast as your getting.

My K&N induction kit has slowed my car down. Adding a back box will probably increase back flow and slow ur car down. No point in a remap, you'll still be slow lol

Thats about all you can hope for in terms of low cost etc. What i'm doing is just waiting until those NCB's build up and enjoy a bigger faster car later on.

the reason i said cheap is that i know it is pointless doing anything to a 1.2. im not one of these pikeys going down to the asda car park every night to rev the b****cks off the engine, attempt handbrake turns, wheelspin at every possible junction etc etc. because i actually use my car for work so i dont want to do anything major as i stilkl want to keep the comfort factor to it.

Ignore what most people say about saving your money and buying a 'proper' car.
I had a 1.4 for 2 years and people would tell me the same thing all the time, but what most of em realise is that you cant always afford the insurance on a 172.
I tarted my car up regardless and despite it made little difference the old girl still had a few 1.6's in its time, not to mention i could get it up on 3 wheels on a roundabout.
There is stuff out there for your car, and you'll get more respect popping your bonnet and showing off your mods then taking em for a spin and trying to power impress em.
