Cheapest way to insurance a road legal track toy

Hello all,

Still on the hunt for a clio but it’s inevitable and I should have one soon. It will be purly for track days however I will need to drive it to and from the track and the old spin around to keep it ticking over.

You guys will know a lot more than I will so I’m hoping you can help me.

Can you get track insurance which allows a restricted amount of road driving? Trying to work out the best and cheapest way to insure the car.

I won’t be using ncb as this is a second car and it will be driven pretty much to and hopefully from the track.

I have been thinking about a trailer but I currently have a focus st so having a centre exhaust has messed that one up.

Hoping you can shed some light on costs and who to use. To compare with what your paying I’m 31, won’t be using no claims and have had no accidents etc. Car will be in a secured garage.

If you are going to drive it on the road then I should imagine you will need to fully insure it. When I take mine i only Insure it for the trackday. Other then that it’s fully insured.

Have you tried multicar insurance?

Currently have multicar with mine and my wife’s car however noticed that being on separate policy’s cheaper this time round. It’s due end of the month.

I’ll give them a call and see about adding another car on which is modified.

I’m coming from a mk1 golf gti as a second car where classic car insurance was less than £150

Spoke to Neil and he’s confirmed it’s about £280-£300 ish.

10 years ncb and a clean licence and literally no issues or previous and i wanted to insure my standard 200 as a second car with a 3000 mile limit.
Greenlight wasn't even interested in running the quote and wouldn't give me a price as they felt they couldn't match the £300 I was quoted elsewhere and didn't try!
so why did they ask what my best price had been?

Asking questions like have you ever had a 200hp car in the last 12 months. I've had plenty of cars over that power and I've owned the 200 for nearly a year. Complete waste of my time even talking to them.

Tax it the day before, cancel the direct debit the day after... payment doesn't even go out
