Chipping an Xbox...

  RS Megane DCi 175
Does anyone still do this to the original Xbox not the 360?
I've got one and never really use it so was thinking about getting it chipped and a bigger HD and use it as a multimedia pc? Not really arsed about playing copied games etc as long as I can play my normal ones ok. Not bothered really about xbox live as I believe chipping them can cause problems with xbox live?
Anyone know how much this costs & a +200GB hd assuming people still do it?

Cheers!

i've not done one for a while but still can do them. xbox live is getting harder to abuse with a chipped box as they detect all kinds of stuff.

Whereabout are you? PM me.

I'm probably into the 20's know of chipping Xboxs.

You can do it yourself. It's so easy now. Not like back in the day. lol.

Buy chip and solderless adapter. About £30 for an Xecuter 2.6 and Xapter.

Install. Flash Bios with bios disc.

Fit HDD. Put Auto installer Deluxe 3.0 in and partition/format new HDD. You can install all the latest Dashboards, emulator, applications etc etc.

An hours reading and you'll be able to do it yourself.

  As father and son....
word of warning the latest Xbox live version wont allow you on if you have a hard drive different to default specification. Used to be able to trick it and "hide" other partitions on the disk, thus only allowing the live system to see one partition of an appropriate size to mirror the original disk. Not sure if this still works but just a sidenote

I chipped my xbox a while ago, don't use it for playing games, just streaming stuff to my tv, from my pc.

My house mate is looking to buy an Xbox, and wants me to chip it for him and add a larger HD. I've been having a look online at the different ways of doing it, and because he want's it the cheapest way possible, i was thinking about soft modding it for him. What i can't find details on, is if, with softmodding, you can add a larger hard disk, or can you only use the disk that's in it?

Dont like solderless chips, they have a habit of shifting and causing problems.

I've soldered most of them - But I've had no comebacks with the solderless ones I've done. No problems whatsoever. The adapter is held down by a screw and isn't really likely to come undone. The D0 wire is also an excellent fit.

It's not like you throwing the things about is it!!

Oh and I got banned from Xbox live with my chip turned off ages ago.... But I have two xbox's, one for music/vids/streams/p**n etc and the other for live. Only real sure fire way of not getting banned!!

Well I don't mind paying someone to do it!
My xbox live membership expired months ago anyway and I probably used it about 3times.
I'm in Wigan (nr Manchester) btw.
