Citrix problem (shock!!!)

  dCi 65 + C2 (<Sold)
User is having trouble opening an application. It looks like it crashes as soon as it initializes, thus disabling the serverside reset and logoff selected session functions, so I have to manually kill all the processes until his session disappears.

Working fine for other users. We have 3 terminal servers and it's no.3 that causes this problem, however as I said it's fine for other users on it, only had 2 users with intermittent problems. Normally logging them off and getting them to re-open works, but it's not been recently.

Error codes 520 and 523. I've disabled the application from using that server but it's not ideal as now it's under quite heavy use.

Helpage?

Found out the problem (sorry for the triple post).

Checked the eventvwr's on each server, and only no.3 was getting the CDM error. Means it can't find a driver for the user's printers and just times itself out and doesn't display the application, but it still gives the user an active connection which crashes when you try to reset/log off.

Just checking the drivers on each server now to compare, I'll have to delete the network printers the user has that he doesn't use.

It was a KROY label printer causing the problems! Just downloading the driver and sticking it on the terminal server now.

I hate Citrix :(

It's great. When it works. ;)

Printer drivers have historically been the biggest pain in the arse for us as well, though PS4 hasn't been too bad to be fair. The old days of MetaFrame XP were a piss-take. One single page print error could crash the entire print queue. :(

Xenapp is pretty fking good tbh, as was PS4.

We built a new Xenapp farm on completely new HW a few months back, runs fantastically well. Printers have always been an issue for Citrix historically, some good tools and articles on this site, including the default printer tool - http://www.dabcc.com/downloads.aspx?c=98

The problems are usually caused by mis-configured servers which when load balanced out cause problems which are a complete PITA to locate. The error messages for debugging have never been too useful.

We found standardising some of the drivers was a massive help, some of them for example we used a generic Laserjet driver [despite them being Canon], helped reduce any individual device related problems.
