Cleaning Advice

  Williams Clio
Ok i have tried quite a few car cleaning products mainly the meguiars range which i found to be quite good. After reading a few of the threads on here i decided to buy some auto glym SRP and EGP to see how that goes. What do people recommend for the following.

1. Washing, what wash and cloth?
2. Claying, i already have the meguiars claykit but have ran out clay, which clay should i
buy?
3. What to use for applying and removing the SRP and EGP?
4. What wax to use after the EGP?
5. What cloths for applying and removing the wax?

This is for a williams 1 with quite badly swirled paint work

6. Is there any way of reducing the swirls by hand such as scratch x?

Also any advice on where i can get the products from would be much appreciated.

I've been using some new products from carwashnwax

I'm impressed with the extreme body wash shampoo . I use a lambswool mitt , not a sponge . Use the 2 bucket method , 1 bucket with the shampoo and water in and 1 with clean water which you rinse the mitt out as you go along .

To apply the SRP and EGP you can use the meguiars applicator pads , but i prefer the microfibre appilcators from carwashnwax , some people say they soak up alot of product but to be honest i don't think they use anymore than the megs applicators , personal choice i suppose .

I've used a few different waxes and the easiest on and off by hand i have found is the XXX Hardcore Pure White Carnauba Paste Wax from carwashnwax , or another good one is the liquid souveran from motorgeek

http://www.motorgeek.co.uk/pinnacle-liquid-souveran-p-77.html

To remove the polish , sealant and wax use a good quality microfibre cloth .

Scratch X will help with the swirls but if paint is badly swirled it will take lots of elbow grease and then probably not make much of an impact on it. Use a folded terry towel and work the product till its gone in samll sections at a time. Maybe thing of using a glaze type product and wax to hide them. This wont be possible if using the AG SRP and EGP route, as EGP needs the Resin Polish to bond correctly to.

With regards to clay it is said to be all made by the same comapany. I would get the stuff alex sells at http://www.seriousperformance.co.uk/ with 10% discount and use soap and water with it to save wasting the quick detailer which is the expensive bit.

Waxes wise after EGP on on youe colour paint P21s for me. Again from http://www.seriousperformance.co.uk/

As for applying products Foam hand pads for the SRP and Wax. Microfiber applicator for the EGP. Thick products get absorded and wasted in the M/f applicators for me.

Hi Mate,

For washing you want soft and plush, which is why lambskin wash mits are a good choice. Definately try the two bucket method as most swirls are caused during washing. Then ideally for drying i would use a microfibre drying towel rather than a blade or chamois.

The best microfibre i have found for removing polish is the Sonus Polishing Towels, these are patented edge less towels with a tight knit perfect for remving any polish. For final buffing you want as soft as possible and nice and plush, again these buffing towels are a good option.

There are many types of clay which I know are better then Meguiars. If you have already clayed before i would highly recommend Sonus Ultra Fine as this will safely remove contaminants without inducing any marring.

Cheers Tim

Ok and one last question what cloths would you for applying and removing the glaze and sealant?

Apply with Yellow Megs Foam Hand Pads and remove glazes and sealants with Pakshak Ultra Microfiber towels.
