Clio 182 lambda sensor help???

  Clio 182
My engine management light came on the other day, had it plugged into diagnostic machine, and its saying the 02 sensor pre cat, the car is idling fine, no loss of power and its not using anymore fuel than normal, the exhaust sounds a little bit louder with a slight rattle, is it the lambda or has the CAT gone?

Check both joints on your cat. I've had my eml come on in the past, and also rattling sound with the exhaust slightly louder and blowing. The clamp between the olive joint and centre section was knackered and leaking. Try with the cheapest fix first and replace the clamp and the fitting kit from the manifold to cat too.

Pre-cat lambda is a common fail on these cars, George@RTR can supply you with the correct part, they're not expensive.

What did the error exactly say about the O2 sensor?

I wonder if a blocked cat may flag up an error, and they would tend to rattle or knock.

It said 02 sensor pre cat, i think that was all, wouldnt the car be using a lot more fuel and running bad with a 02 sensor problem tho? The car runs fine, just a slight blowing and rattling when revved

Sometimes they do not but I have seen many people change an 02 sensor with the fault still being present. Most of the time the error comes back saying 'Lamda reading too lean' or 'too rich' instead of simply saying its faulty.

Just jacked it up and had a look underneath everything looks alright, the noise coming from the exhaust sounds like it by the cover maybe touching it, i took pics of the clamps, they look ok apart from one of the bolts have bent, any advice??
