Clio 197 timing belt and aux belt kit complete kits?

  clio 197
Hi all

New clio 197 owner here, awesome forum guys and gals! Only got the beauty a few days ago and so far i am really enjoying it! amazing :) But does seem extremely thirsty! So as i have not really got a lot of paper work with it would like to get some advice is there a complete kit i can buy to get the timing belt dephaser, water pump and not sure what other parts will be there that need changing at roughly the same time for it in one go? also does it make any real difference which brand these parts come from like gates timing belt compared to febi belts etc?

Thank you

Welcome.
The perceived wisdom is that you use only genuine OE parts, and have it done by a Renaultsport specialist who will guarantee their labour & parts.

Hi thank you

Thanks for that and the link its not too far from me. and i shall seriously take on board your wise words! and just asking though who does make the OE parts? is it Renault them selves? or are they sourced out to other manufactures? because i swear ive read a few places the timing belt is made by gates, so i was thinking about getting all the parts myself after some fishing around then try to get it booked in at some specialist as i do have a friend that is a mechanic but i think this is out of his league, especially as the timing tools are a must and i know he has some Renault timing tools but i dont think he has what is needed for this beastly 2.0l engine.

Also noticed this what do you think sir?

I noticed the price of this and the link you set and apart for setting a time and getting there i think over all your link is a better choice though, one thing ill be honest about it the maintenance of this beauty was a lot more then thought. but hopefully it will be well worth it when its all done :)

Renault Parts Direct would be a good place to get parts from.
Thanks mate ill keep the options open alright, to be honest i woundnt mind having a go my self honestly if i could get the complete timing tool set at a cheap price but ive had a fish around and the best i could come up with was around 170ish - 500! and after the initial cost of the car tax and insurance its a bitter pill to swallow at the moment lol but i wont give up on it

or Wolverhampton can beat that price.

Kam are very good on prices for many products, but are on the back foot for OE parts, not being a Renault dealer.

I used Diamond in 2014 for belts, despite the round trip, and will be back there next year.

I take your point about the dephaser as I am not aware of one every failing but they can rattle when cold on start up and for the cost I would always get it done as it's all the same labor to change just that as the belt and a rattle for 5 years is very annoying plus most buyers would look for it to be done in my option .

Thats great info! really appreciate it, looks like i am narrowing it down alright thank you soo much for the help, ill let you guys know what i go for the end and see if i can get any more info from previous owner lol but he didnt seem like he knew too much.

Wouldn't bother getting dephaser changed.

Really? Just i thought it would be best to get it all done in one go and not bother for some years after wards. The dephaser doesnt actually currently make any noise just as a more precaution.

Wow that is pretty good to hear. never knew that! it doesnt currently make any noise, but i think if i am going to have the whole lot done ill more then likely get it done at the same time as it kinda makes sense as i dont really know that much about the car and its history like maintenance from previous owner. Thank you guys for the help

they redesigned them in about 2006 to sort the issue out, was down to angle on a plunger or something stupid like that. only time i've come across one that's rattled on cold start has been down to oil, change and fine. solenoids can give issue but they tend to cause cutting out on idle from cold.

would be folly not to change the dephaser at the same time as the belts if u have no record of it being done, for the sake of £100 odd. when i had my belts done last year i had mine changed at the same time, makes sense. IMO
