Clio 200 temperature gauge

Hi iv got a clio 200 and the temp gauge moves around a lot. Whilst driving it goes up to the middle mark fairly quickly but then as soon as I coast towards a stop and then stop it drops back down to the first line very quickly. My thought is that the temperature sensor is at fault cause I can still blow hot and cold air no matter what the gauge says and surley my coolant can't change the temperature that quickly. Has anyone changed a sensor before so can tell me where abouts there located or if anyone has had this same problem. Cheers in advance
