Clio 4WD/AWD Conversion

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick question, was wondering if anyone could help.

does anyone no if it is and how possible it is to do a 4WD conversion on a clio 182. Also how much do you reckon im looking at if i did decied to go ahead and have it done. cheers.

ok mate thanks for replying (whats a LSD)...

is it just a waste of money then mate, the only reason im looking into it is im doing my clio up for the track and getting the k-tec turbo installed and its not going to handle the power through the front 2 wheels is it... so i thought ild look into the 4WD.

the only 4wd system available is very heavy and apparently not very good. an LSD is a Limited Slip Differential and will help to get the power down.

Perosnally wouldnt go for a turbo conversion.

Why dont you just get another 2 litre lump - put it in the boot and attatch it to the gearbox and rear wheels............

surely that would be cheaper................ Or maybe now with our fuel prices lol !

but that would make a seriously quick car !

Oh right yeah i no what a limited slip diff is lol just didnt click when you said LSD lol... well i was going to get the Quaife ATB Differential... whys a turbo converion a no no then mate.

From experience ....... dont bother as theres no 4x4 transmission Renault build that could take the power

nah i cant really be arsed to do the work myself, was just going to buy all the parts i want then take it to my mates garage and get him and his boss to put all the parts on for me rather than mess about with it myself.

yeah true... i just want something no one around my area and that have got.. my mates got a nissan pulsar GTiR and my clio keeps up with that at the moment, but hes getting a bigger turbo and s**t so i want mine to beat his motor lol

It would be a Ridiculously Expensive Job because a sMatt Black said there is No Renault 4x4 Sysytem that could handle the Power so it woul all probably have too be Custom made, I would go Schrick Cam's, ITB's, LSD and a Yozza Exhaust System if it was mine and I had the money

If you were to do the conversion i would use an S3 Audi as a donor car, fabricate a transmission tunnel in the clio and transfer the entire set up. Get the S3 lump tuned to a usable power and fit a race logic traction control system to compliment the set up

yeah lol true, well my mates dads got an Audi S3 and its got a 80% power increase 400 bhp 380 ft/lb torque f**king mental pull in 6th gear at 100MPH like my clio 182 does in first or second

Built a 400 hp clio already with an Audi lump ( see clio TT ) so its just a case of fitting the transmission and running gear and then building a transmission tunnel. Sounds easy but it will take me some time

well i was thinking, might just go with the first plan and spend about £10,000 but the turbo conversion and quaife dif then bigger brake etc just so its a bit safer.. but i dont no now. might just get a different car lol

You have a 7k clio 182, thinking of spending around 7k on modding it, before you've thought about brakes and suspenion etc...

Whole list of cars that are already 4wd that can handle big power for that money, would you not rather sell it?

Jesus wept Matt those are some weapons... Make the AWD Clio - You know you want to hehe ;)

I'd quite like an NA 182, with the 6 speed box from the 197, an LSD, and about 250 high revving BHP. Stripped, caged, with big brakes and a decent suspension set up (Ledas maybe). That would ROCK :)

As said, it really needs to be done with an S3 and a 1.8 20v engine.

It's that much work that you shouldnt even consider it unless you can do all the work yourself. The labour costs would really really mount up and you would spend a while searching for someone to do it as there is a lot of fabrication work involved.

iirc there are one or two people on here who have had a few problems with the "off the shelf" turbo packages for 1*2s. IMO that is understandable as the engine was never designed with a turbo in mind. I beleive Legohead on here has a 182 Turbo.

I'll be going for a VW 20v when I get the cash together to get buying bits.
