clio central locking

  Renaultclio mk3
right here goes. the clio has remote central locking but occasionally the key keeps messing up so have to lock the car using the lock on the passenger side door. but when i use the lock it only seems to lock that one door.

when it comes to opening it with the key on the passenger side door it will unlock all the doors. Is this right or should the central locking work both with locking and unlocking the car?

thanks for any help

Is the car a UK dealer supplied or a direct import ?

It sounds like the left hand drive version of the locking system has been fitted. The difference is that the drivers door should have a switch in the key lock which controls the module which locks all the doors and boot. This system is known as "Single point locking" not many cars have this now.
The alernative "Multi point locking" means just that, You can lock all the car from the front doors or even the the boot lock on some cars (BMW etc).

Where the Clio is slightly odd, is Renault "overlay" control of the module with the remote locking activated from the key push button, this in turn locks all the entry points as you know.

If you dont use the remote or its broken, you may have to live with this problem or you could fit a five wire locking motor in the drivers door or swap the motors over in the front doors. The wiring to do this is already in place.

Good luck

I have not seen a mk3 up close yet so do not know what locking system they have, but the mk2's do not have a lock barrel in the drivers door, they only have one in the passenger door, if you want to lock the car manually, if your alarm is playing up or the remote is faulty you sit in the passenger seat, close all doors, press the lock button on the dash then get out of passenger door, other door/s and boot should not unlock then close passenger door and use the key to manually lock that door.
