Clio got hurt :(

  BMW E34 540i
Hi there

Few pics of what lorry did to my car this morning. Anyone knows how much might be for the new rear light or should I pm one of the traders from here ? It will be sorted through the company that owns the lorry insurance but I would like to know considering that I can replace the light and be back on the road instead of waiting god knows how long for the claim to be processed.

Generally it wasn't a nice day ...

Gutted :( are they paying out?

I honestly hope so! have driver and company details and few witnesses. Spoke with their transport dept. and the guy say that when driver gets back to the depot they will fill in some accident form and pass it to their insurer. After that insurer gets in touch with me.

Ring your insurance company, tell them what happened you'll get a hire car straight away and the lorry drivers insurance company will foot the bill.

Quater panel yes , rear window and boot lid happily not. So only one panel for repair and respray.

That's actually quite good idea :)

f**k knows why you didn't do that in the first place. It's standard procedure! If someone hits your car, you get all their details and ring your insurance company. They take it from there, it's what you pay for.

If the other persons insurance dont pay out though you foot the bill or you end up with a claim on your policy. 9/10 this doesn't happen and its pretty obvious its the lorry drivers fault but tbh id just stick some sticky back plastic on that light so there are no sharp edges and just wait for the OP's insurance to admitt fault, the car is perfectly driveable like it is.

It's a lorry with all their details plastered over it. They can hardly do a runner from it.

Also what about this, if he doesn't tell his insurance company and they don't fight/chase it for him the other party could potentially flat out deny it. What damage was there to the lorry? My bet is the square root of f-all. "Backed into a Clio mate? Nah not me".

Just checked with Renault - complete rear light costs 55 quid so much cheaper than I expected.

Will you not need the body work doing also though? Looks pricey where it is as i'd imagine you can't push that out. Renault will probably say new rear quarter.

Dont contact your insurance company for this.

If the other party have accepted liability then contact their insurance direct and arrange anything with them. When you engage your insurance company, you engage a 3rd party to handle the claim and liase between your insurance company and their insurance company. Basically you dont do the running around, but the process will take 3x as long due to a 3rd party being involved.

Just keep things simple and do it through their insurance company to avoid affecting your NCB (your insurer may immediately cancel your NCB and use your excess until the claim is settled and this will be refunded).

This is exactly what I intend to do. Waiting now for lorries insurance company to get in touch. Other thing is I do not necessarily need a courtesy car as I live like 10min walk from work.

Moving very soon to the new house not sure If I will be doing body work repair straight away... a lot of more important expenses is coming.

Got the letter from them - I do not really need their services - seems a bit lame for me. RAC/AA is not enough nowadays ?

Its a free service which looks very appealing imo, although i've never had to use it myself.
