Clio GT Gearbox

  Swift Sport
Hi,

Not sure if this is in the right section as technically I don't even have the car yet but here goes.

I was all set to go and buy a Clio GT after a test drive of one yesterday but, after looking into the 197/200 and their Gearbox issues, I came across a thread where someone mentioned the 128 GT shares the same box. Can anyone shed any light on this? Are the issues likely to be the same even with the lower engine torque and different ratios?

I planned on keeping my next car for 5 years minimum but if I'm likely to end up with a Gearbox issue which costs more than half the price of the car I'll just steer clear and get a mk6 ST instead (even though I prefer the Clio).

Cheers,
Andy

Get the DCI version of the GT, after a map thay are just as quick, so much better on juice and ive never heard of a issue with a dci gearbox

FYI i had a GT DCI as a daily now my GF commutes 800 miles a week in it and it is nor trouble at all

I think the DCi was just out of my budget. I actually went to test drive the GT I had been looking at and it drove beautifully but I then drove an ST and ended up putting a deposit down. I'm just not a fan of VVT and the Clio just lacked the low down grunt of the ST which put a bit smile on my face. I suspect if I could have afforded the diesel the outcome may have been different. The Clio was a million miles ahead in terms of refinement and equipment.
