We bought the car with a smashed key came with blade and piece off chip board. so i rung a company to come re program a key under the deal that i wasnt bothered how car run as long as they sorted it to start. anyway went to work came back and they had been but said to mother n law that i had said the car wouldnt start due to a jammed starter!!! so now when you put key in ignition and try and start it the red light stays solid on some relays click but thats it!

If the immobiliser light stay on permanently, this indicates a fault with the coded line signal from the UCH to the Injection computer. If it flashes about 4 times a second this would indicate a faulty key. Check the relays in the box in the N/S inner wing, remove them one at a time and check for corrosion (green residue on the pins). If they are all ok, it could be a wiring fault between the box and the computer.
Not easily diagnosed on a forum I am sorry to say.

Yep the key and Multi timer unit are out of sink. The key needs re-programming. my spare key went dead once and after a new battery the key still locked and unlocked the car but wouldnt start it. Weird Renault thing!

Follow Bob RTE's advice, I will also add its worth checking r34 white connector in the same fusebox.

Hi my 1999 clio mk2 is also having a problem starting. It really sounds like its going to start, sometimes it back fires.

The immobiliser light does not come on at all. This is where my problem is I presume.

I have bought a used part replacement for the transponder receiver, which goes round the ignition, this does not make any difference.

I have done a circuit test with an electrical tester and this has shown there is no breaks in the wires from, each pin in the three pin connector to the transponder receiver, to the connector to the ecu, I tried all of the available ports, I think black had lots of connections (due to being earth) the other one had three positive connections I believe, and the last one had a few positive connections, this is in reference to the amount of holes in the ecu connector.

I have tried re-syncing the key fob but it wont work, maybe I am doing it incorrectly.
