Clio mk2 1.2 Gear linkage adjustment

Changed my engine and put everything back together. Went to drive the car and it won't go into gear only reverse, even then it just grinds and doesn't engage. I have tried the method of putting both the gear selector on the box and gear knob in reverse and it still didn't work

That method won't work. Most people get it back to front. If you can get all the other gears in then it probably means the faults with the gear knobs lift function or the linkage fixing isn't in the right position.
