Evening all I have just been to view a 2010 (60 reg) Clio RS200 with just 49,000 miles and a book full of dealer stamps. It looks to be a very clean and good example car which has been looked after well. My only concern is I have seen no evidence of a belt/pump change which I believe is 72,000 miles although I have read somewhere it’s five years. Can someone who knows more or has had a similar experience please help and do you think I should walk away?

Whats the registration? I can check for you if its ever had a belt done at a Renault dealer.

If the belts haven't been done just knock £500 off the price and get them done....ask if the gear box has been changed..

Find a mint 200 you can't afford take it for a rest drive, then compare the rest to it,,that's what I'm doing when I'm buying one,I'm also taking a fine tooth comb with me... 😂

It's 72k or 6 years (whichever comes first)

If it hasn't been done, it needs doing ASAP.

Belt on the wife's 172 has now been on for about 130,000 miles.
That’s what I mean it’s such a touchy area about whether or not they last
I wonder how bad is is to stray over that six years as another 22,000 miles is a lot!
How do you know the belts have ever been changed? Maybe they're nearly 10 years old..do you risk saving £500 (The belts can be used to negotiate a better price) or £1000s in engine repair bills? Do you feel lucky?

It’s either going to be negotiate on price, get the dealer to sort it or walk away for me

Belts on my brother's old Megane 225 are still going with the current owner.

Last done in 2011 😂

And that's a track car too, so no light use.

Obviously it's not worth risking on your daily though.

For the love of god don't get the dealer to change the belts.

It'll be done on the cheap and most likely not properly, resulting in reduced bhp at best and potentially a new engine down the line at worst.

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
Reduce price
Get belts done by a specialist.

Its good news that as it means a monkey hasnt done them wrong yet
As said 6yrs / 72k

Thanks all I’ve revived a quote from the best of the best that I’m happy with so if the price was negotiated I’d be happy! Also it wouldn’t hurt to use as is for a few weeks

Evening all what do I need to look out for when test driving a MK3 RS200 Cup pack??

  Clio 197
- Blown flexi-pipes on the manifold
- Cambelt done by a specialist
- Ball joints
- Radiator mount rust (hard to do with the undertray on, but if it hasn't been done it will need doing)
- Crunchy gearbox
- Seized rear calipers etc

Amazing thank you mate, I knew about the gearbox but was going to ask is it general crunching in all gears or specific? Chain and water pump was done in 2017 with paperwork but will have to see who did that when the dealer opens, thanks for your help!

No worries mate :) Crunching is usually at high rpm changing into 3rd. 4th and 2nd can be a bit crunchy too.

On my old 197, there was a minor crunch in second which was fixed by bleeding the clutch/brake fluid change and a yearly gearbox oil change. Soldiered on for nearly four years after, completely fine with a lot of town/fast road use.

It is also worth seeing if the dephaser was changed. A lot of people say they don't need to but for the sake of £100 why not. It's another cambelt off job if it needs replacing. Begs the question what else was skimped on if the dephaser wasn't changed.
