Clio Sport reliability

  Black 182 FF
Hello, tomorrow I should be picking up my Clio 182. However after looking at some reviews on the internet I've seen many favourable remarks about the car, but also a few negative ones about build quality and reliability.

Seeing as people on here are actually owners of the same cars and many have had them more than one or two years, can any helpful forum members put me straight on common problems and what Clio Sports are like to live with.

Cheers for any replies guys ;)

If they are looked after [serviced regularly] then they should go on for a long time, and be reliable... My mk2 172 is on 92k and going strong [touches wood].

Probably the single most annoying day-to-day problem, is the seatbelt. My drivers belt needs quite a bit of help to retract properly when taking it off. My mates 182 is the same, so I'm presuming it's yet another common fault.

Steering wheels don't last long. Exhausts will fall apart. Suspension may creak on full lock. Lots of other niggling design/build flaws, but TBH if they're looked after properly then they seem pretty reliable.

Wheel bearings are a common fault along with window regulators and a rattling window.

If you have patience then these things can be sorted pretty cheaply.

Also, mis-firing aswell thats another, its normally coil pack, ht leads or sparks. Never really heard of any engine fails unless its poor workmanship!

Ive had my ph2 172 and its never skipped a beat in 61k miles. Never needed for anything.

A few things to look out for when getting one though to cut down costs:

make sure its had its belts done as this is 500£ +
Climate control interior fan inside by the light Buzzes like a trooper - cheap to replace though.
CV gaiter clips break really easily after a few years, so make sure the boots are on solid.

Other than that im happy :D

The only problem ive had with my 172 cup so far is the accelerator pedal... ive had 3 of them fitted! Not sure if its a common fault with the fly-by-wire pedals?
