Clio V6

I think a year ago yes but with them jumping in value so much in that time I'd say its to late. I can't see people paying much more than 15-18k for a good mark 2 or 12-14k for a mark one.

But then again what do I know

investment? no....

you can buy one for about 15k and if you think its going to go up in value by about 1k (6% ish) per year despite you using it.. well then your crazy.

look after a low miler well, use it 2k miles per year, still service yearly and you won't lose any money...

Not an investment, but depreciation free.

No car should bee seen as an investment. Investments don't have bigger running costs than return.

I paid £15500 for mine 3 years ago, it's done 2800 since and I wouldn't sell it for less than £18500 now, and that's if I was advertising it which I'm not. If someone came along specifically wanting to buy my car he'd better start with a 2....

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
If your buying an investment you cant just buy any V6-

You will need to have some decent history to underpin the value-

Phase II ideally- Any ID colour sub 25k. with Full service + cambelt.
Phase I is still a possibility, although find a decent one.- Good luck with that.

I sold Sam the LY above.

If were buying now I'd go Mk2.

Unless you want the original, but then it's gotta be a minter (or in a rare colour) Oh hi!!

Still a while away before any big returns but I would buy now. Also they are brilliant, had a young guy recording mine as I was reversing out from a co-op, bizzare but love it.

Do it :)

I had some dudes in a Fiesta ST filming me on the motorway the other week, no doubt they posted on their ST forum how they slayed a Vee, lol! (I wasn't even going fast)

All collectable cars values have increased in the last few years, cars worth millions are being used as investments instead of stocks and shares by some people it appears, probably due to lack of faith in the markets, and this seems to have had a knock on effect all the way down to stuff at the "entry level" for collectors like 3 door cosworths or V6 clios etc.

Im not convinced they will go up again by the same amount in the next few years though, so not sure I would call one an investment currently, although I think its a lot more enjoyable than money in the bank Im not convinced all the maintenance and insurance costs of owning one will be covered by its appreciation and without that its not really an investment that is giving a return.

Colin mentions that he thinks his car has "made" 3K, but take out the cost of a belt service and some other bits and bobs you would need to do in that 3 year period including insuring it in order to maintain its value and I dont think it's really made any real profit, and thats if the next few years their values go up as much as their last.

But in terms of spending approx 20K on a car and it not losing money, it beats the hell out of a new mondeo etc of course!

Very good investment imo. Will never see a car like this again.

Couldn't agree more. Even if Renault did put pen to paper, it would be heavily boosted, relatively small capacity engine. The V's were far from Dieter of The Month in terms of kerb-weight to begin with. Add to that, the increased health and safety stuff, and the commercial pressure to load up cars these days with gadgets and you could potentially see the next-gen Vee being too heavy to be 'justified'.

The road presence of a Vee cannot be under-estimated though. Even people with little interest in cars either look at the them or comment accordingly. A follow-up Vee would be an awesome prospect - so long as they addressed the turning circle issue. ;)

In absence of a replacement, I do think they will always hold a certain financial value. But as an investment? I'd rather just drive it. Even if I had James's Deep Bronze V6. :)

My thoughts echo the comments above, safe place to put your money and enjoy it but won't make you money.

Lotus Elise S1 135/160 might, Porsche 968 Clubsport will. R26Rs are depreciating marginally at the moment.

One thing to remember when looking on PH, there are rarely any for sale. Not even half a dozen in the country, because of this most people can ask more for them.

You will not be disappointed if you do, these cars are very special indeed.

Iv owned mine 5 years and feel very lucky to own such a car. Go for it!

They look great! I'd miss seeing it too much to sell it. Even if it is worth £50K now.
I guess any increase in value helps if you suddenly need the cash for something.

For investment I'd go Ford. All the Cosworth's have been increasing so much recently... when I was looking at Escort's a few years back they were £15,000-£20,000 but now they're all £20,000-30,000. Feel I've missed the boat there.

This thread has made me wonder... why did they make the V6?

i think it was a joke that went too far tbh *best French accent*

"ho ho, wouldn't eet be heelarious to make Le clio suparcar. Le 3.0l engine in zee back seats"

"I dare you to change Le design for Le novau clio 182 to hold Le 3.0l engine!"

"Le challangé, accepted"

... And the rest is history

IIRC They were looking for a one make race series to replace the spider championship, and as the clio was a new model they decided to use that to promote it so to speak.

There was so much positive reaction to the V6 Trophy that they made a production version.

I'd buy it not as an investment but as something that is more exciting than logging on to your bank and seeing your current balance. A bright yellow vee in the garage certainly beats that. Yes, they are going up but not at a rapid rate. Lots of better cars to buy for an investment in my opinion, as others have mentioned.

Not an investment as such as the cost of owning it will negate any profit. ... possibly with the execption of the ultra low mileage cars with sub 1k miles on the clock.

Depreciation proof fun though for sure.

For the majortity of cars, even if they are worth 40-50k in 20 years time, you would of spent any appreciation in ownership..... same story with most other cars.

Not that they are particular expensive to own mind.

It is a nice sweetner though as values have been sliding up over the past few years. Certainly makes it easier to keep hold of it! Cant think of may other bonkers ultra rare cars for the same price range that will provide the same unique ownership experience.

The key is to buy well, find one with decent history and one in truely top condition....Alot easier said than done.

I think this comment would have been accurate in 2011 concerning the phase two, an investment / mint car will command much more than what's stated.

Investment if it's in LY.

By virtue of therefore being the best car Renault ever made in the best colour Renault ever made.

Some guy put one on here that was detailed a few months ago, it was perfect, completely and utterly.

EDIT: Here: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?726835-Liquid-yellow-detail&highlight=liquid+yellow+v6

The car is now sold, this car never went on the open market for sale but still had three offers on the table being with 2. It's up to the new owner to state the sale price but interestingly the car was an hour away from being exported to an Australian buyer.

If I was looking to do the same again, I don't think LY is the only colour that can replicate what happened with my previous vee.

One thing to remember when looking on PH, there are rarely any for sale. Not even half a dozen in the country, because of this most people can ask more for them.

Rightly said, simple demand and supply. The most expensive cars don't get sold on the open market . . . collector cars normally get traded behind the scenes.

If you buy right, chances are in 1,2,3+ years down the line, if you look after it, you will be likely to get your money back if not more. Then for what you have paid for insurance, tax, servicing etc, that would be the depreciation of a new car. This is probably the sole reason I bought it. Plus there isn't many for sale, therefore, if advertised right, more than likely won't be for sale long.

And We all know for a fact, what new, sub £15k car (I'd even say £25k) will get the looks, attention and admiration that the V6 does.

Iv just litterally poped to the supermarket for some BBQ burgers and beers (yes I'm making the most of the weather) and had a couple who must have been 45 ish, asking if it was a Megane sport. I kindy pointed out the it was infact a clio, just like the clio that they had only a crazy version. Probably stood for a good 5 minutes talking to them then went on my way inside. Had a cheeky look back, and he was over by it taking a photo. Silly things like that are what makes this car what it is.

If you are looking for a long term investment say 10 years then I think they are a good bet.
As others have said you certainly wouldn't lose any money on one.
I paid circa 19k for my Acid with 28k on the clock in 2007. If I were looking at the same car today with 40k on the clock I would be expecting to pay erm......... Circa 19k lol

  Ph1 Clio V6, Ph2 172
My advise would be go out your way and find a good ph1 v6 not a ph2. Ph2's have a better rep because they have a few more toys in than the ph1's and reno apparently "fiddled" with the handling. Its now 2014 and the cabin of either car by todays standards are toyless and you hear of as many people stuffing ph2's than ph1's so the handling ent that much different in either car. Going to track days in france with large groups of v6's the performance between each car is feck all. The reason I say buy the ph1 is how often does the mk2/ph2 of any iconic car end up being worth more than the 1st regardless of faults or niggles? I'd say the ph1's are definatly a rarer sight than the 2 now aswell. Every v6.net meet ive been to over the last 3 years has proved that very easily. Its all just my opinion though. Its to early to say x will be worth more than Y. They are definatly something you wont loose out on though and DONT have big running costs.
