Country roads are a nightmare. Friend of a friend ended up killing a horse on one once...... ; (

Oddly a friend of a friend killed a cow on one only the other week in his Fabia VRS. Was doing over 100, but hardly damaged the car, bonnet, wing, light, bumper, no chassis damage, lucky for him, not the cow.

Bloody hell. Was just posting that I hit a cow in my old 206. Was going too quick and didn't have time to react. Needless to say cow had to be shot and my car was a mess.

Not actually in the car but my handbrake once failed in my nova when parked on my mum and dads drive. The car rolled down the drive and parked itself perfectly in the drive on the opposite side of the road! I was convinced my dad had moved it to wind me up but then we saw the handbrake had failed!

I love country roads... they're far more interesting.... and if its dark you can always see if something is coming, and the trees that are close either side make it feel faster, so you dont have to drive so fast. I always find new ones interesting.... but yeah ok they are pretty crap if you meet the typical farm vehicles!

Agree. Night time gunning is great, but what if farmer Giles leaves his gates open and a whole herd escape??! Steak for tea at least ; )

First time in my friends car he got air over a bridge in the middle of nowhere. I was convinced it was the end.

Also coming of the M20 in my landy with friends in, the brakes didn't work at all. Ropey wheel bearing had pushed the piston back, had to pump them like a nutter to not hit the traffic at the lights.

Doing about 80 in the sport round a corner, turned out to be sharper than expected. Turned the wheel harder but car was just going straight, locked up and just managed to stop before going Into a ditch....

hit black ice at 50ish in my old vts and the abs didnt work, all 4 wheels lock up, sideways one way, then the other, coming up to a junction meeting a main road could see a car coming along it and im sliding fully sideways at speed knowing that we would meet when i hit the main road, black ice just ran out before main road and car stopped completely sideways bang on the white lines where the road ended.

First one I'm still undecided if it was my fault or if I narrowly avoided getting scammed. 11pm, nobody on the road except me and some stupid douche in a 206 or something unimportant.
Under normal driving I leave well over the 2.5 second distance but they were going under the speed limit so I was possibly a bit impatient and a shade closer than I would normally be.
We're approaching a roundabout. Slowly. :banghead: Now I don't live in the countryside, we have big roundabouts here and big roads so you can see for miles. There was nothing. No cars. No animals. Not even a fart in the mist.
206 hits the brakes. Hard.
Conveniently the pads and discs on the Clio had been replaced not long ago and the car responded accordingly. A little bit of poo and a paragraph of unholy language came out but I was so angry I started unbuckling and prepared myself to punch this person in the gooch and to answer the question of whether "will the anus accommodate a wing mirror?" ... I half expected the reverse lights to come on but they drove off.

I caught up quickly and pulled alongside on the dual carriageway to see the face of this douche and it was just some pompous looking middle aged woman and I just couldn't be bothered. The thought of cutting her up (with the car...) did cross my mind but I don't want some injured woman (even if she was a stupid douche) on my conscience so I settled with the bird and left it at that.

Second time I almost lost the Clio it was raining. I was in 2nd gear, there was a roundabout, ABS was off.... yeah.... Bad n00b driving on my part and no excuse for it.

Yes Dan, reading that back to myself now, I realise how much of a child I sounded like! The novelty is slowly starting to wear off now... (approaching 1 year) hopefully parents will buy me a caterham experience day for my 18th.... Then I can drive a proper car!

Pulled out of McDonalds on to 60.. Got up to the speedlimit hit the first bend and my track rod end went, my wheels steered in seperate directions .... I managed to stop without hitting anything or anyone - scary experience though!!

ive had a couple in the clio, always led to the brakes, even from 30mph the car did not want to stop ended up rolling about 15 metres before the handbrake was used, almost into the back of my mates car, and another time coming back from SantaPod and it decided to now work again, just kept rolling, found out it was down to the inlet hose and no vacuum, but new discs/pads/hoses/fluid since those moments and now the brakes are quicker than the crash lock

Statistically, country roads are the most dangerous in the uk. With the highest fatality rate.

Tractors quite regularly have mud covering lights, mud on the road, animals, blind bends cyclists etc. not saying your post was childish atall, just showed a massive lack of experience and naivety. Get yourself out on an advanced driving course, it'll help you as a driver and also reduce your insurance

Lane on motorway closed suddenly and I was beside a lorry and the cones were closing in as the lane was closing. I managed to control it, but after getting past the lorry I was snaking all over the road. Again, somehow controlled it!

I don't think I've ever been in that situation, but then I don't do 100mph along country roads.

In the snow, on a single track uncleared road, I was driving my old fiesta and tried to slow down going down a steep hill, managed to hit a pheasant and ram the raised verge while missing trees and ditches!, did remove wheel arch liner and snapped bumper mounts though, for which cable ties were needed! After making that mistake I knew how to prevent them, and drove fault free in the rest of the snow!

The best way to learn how to drive in snow is just to make some safe mistakes in a safe place. Then you'll know what to do if you ever get yourself in a sticky situation!

Many sideways moments in my 5 years driving tbh,

My scariest moment without crashing (lol) was probably driving on a roundabout like it was track, only to come off the roundabout onto a road that had just been covered in loads of little stones. As soon as I hit it I lost grip all over, rear came round I gave it a bit of opp and 4 wheel drifted towards a curb power on and luckily the rear just missed the curb before grip was back again. Quite hard to explain as so much happens in those few seconds but I made it lol.
