Clutch biting point

  182/Bora V5/S1 RS Turbo
Do all sports have a high biting point on the clutch? All the ones ive driven appear to be the same. At 23k im sure its got years yet. The clutch on my s40 t4 lasted til 120k and i only changed it cos the rear main seal started leaking!

mine does... but its on 84k and still same clutch from new. Can;t remember what it was like in the days of low mileage, pretty sure its not changed though

think the cable can be adjusted in about 2 mins... doesn;t extend your clutch life obviously, just changes the biting point.

mine's high and was in the others i drove too.
during a recent inspection it was noted that the clutch was less than half worn at 40k - so they're hopefully good for 100k+. shame the gearboxes aren't!

half and half on the gearbox comment mate... i personally drive it like i'm 12, and it takes every bit of abuse on the chin. never had any problems, and at 84k. still feels as tight as ever. However, i;ve heard many people go through 3-4 of them by 72k. Some people just need to learn how to change gear correctly lol

It's easier with the biting point that high. You only have to rest your foot on it to change gear so it is faster if you are good at it. If your not you end up crunching the gears alot:) . The biting point used to be very low on one of my old cars and that was a pain. Having to push the pedal down to the floor every time I wanted to change gear.

wierd mines low. lol i was like this is weird when i test drove another one.

Bah theres always one!! Im worried again now lol. The clutch is very "snatchy" too. I guess its just how they are compared to all the volkswagens i drive everyday!

yours sounds normal chap - the Clio's pedal is certainly stiffer and the take-up sharper than in the Polo and the Golf i drive regularly - don't think you've anything to worry about:)

Yep mine and the 5 or 6 I test drove were all the same. Only thing I dont like about it is when your in slow moving traffic.

yeah i found that today. left leg muscles ached like mad when i got in lol. when i cruised it on the motorway it was great. pretty quiet too i must admit

I've owned 3 and driven loads, they've always been the same. High and very narrow bite point, a pretty on/off clutch tbh.

C

Cupster

Lol, had two cups now both high biters!

Always makes me laugh when valeters etc get in to drive and stall it hardcore.
