Clutch cable snapped on my 172

Hi all,

I've got a 172 phase 2 and my clutch cable snapped. It was replaced about 5k miles ago (less than a year) with a Renault genuine one. I've read on the forums that the new ones keep snapping for a lot of people.

Is there an alternative clutch cable from some aftermarket brand that is better quality?

Shouldn’t it still be under Renault parts warranty if it’s less than a year old.

Id imagine it will need to be fitted by a dealer or approved specialist for warranty, might be wrong though.

Out of interest where has it broken? If your confident it was routed right and it was just crap quality, id stick aftermarket on.

I stuck a cheap motaquip clutch cable on my dci years ago as needed to get it back on the road and local motorfactors had it in stock. Done about 60k on it now and clutch is pretty heavy due to mileage but its still hanging in there.

It snapped inside the pedal box just before the spring. I think it was definitely routed right at the time. I decided to go for aftermarket as well, for now I got a Febi one. Fingers crossed!

Mine did exactly the same thing. Genuine clutch cable.

I just shoved a firstline one on after that which lasted a bit longer before I broke the car.

My original snapped in the same place. Heard a few weeks of pings which i thought was the ratchet slipping, later realised it was cable strands snapping

Might be due a clutch if getting a bit heavy.

I might have also heard that in my case but didn't take it seriously I guess! Clutch was done about 5k miles ago as well so should be good.
