clutch grinding noise?

right, today i thought, ill have a bit of peace and quiet in the car, no music and no girlfriend.

but now ive noticed a sort of 'grinding' noise when i take my foot of the clutch when changing gear, its kind of hard to notice it, but now that i have noticed it, its really annoying. :S

only got 10k miles on the car, so hope i havent got parts that need replacing already?

my old 106 did that about 100 miles before the clutch went, sounded a bit like a supercharger before it completly went, twas cool! but expensive

im full of confidence now lol

i bet it did sound good, but in a different context this doesnt sound good!!

4k rattle either loose exhaust heatsheild or the lower "dogbone" engine mount bushes are shot and you need to replace them. its under warranty why worry

Test your clutch Jonas, park it up and put the handbrake on, put it in 5th, depress the clutch fully and let out the clutch really slowly - it should jump forward and stall, if you get most of the way out before it stalls then its probably slipping. However im willing to bet its something else, could for example be your clutch cable that's stretched.

The other way to gauge your clutch is if your driving along at say 40mph in 5th, and you then boot it, does the revs stay in keeping with the speed and rise slowly? If the car revs like fcuk but your speed isn't rising as rapidly then it is again slipping.

Be surprised if its the clutch though mate, unless you have a habit of launching at 6k ;)

cheers jon, i know i dont need to worry about the warranty....hopefully! its just that its only done 10k miles, so bit miffed as to why im getting grinding noises already

oz - yeah, i tried the handbrake trick last night and couldnt hear anything unusual, i would be very suprised if its the clutch already, i dont usually have a habit of launching it at 6k, not much anyway!

ill take it up to renault tomorrow morning, the problem is its quite difficult to hear, so dont want them to say, nah cant hear anything blah blah etc

So you mean your crunching the gears between 2nd/3rd? If so could point back to either mashed synchro's or a stretched clutch cable perhaps.

the clutch feels fine itself, it just seems to be grinding at all gear changes but mainly noticeable at 2nd to 3rd, but as i said earlier its not really that noticeable, just annoying and a bit paranoid.......lol

latest problem a few days on.....

last night, thought id give it a few revs when pulling away....no harm in that, everyone does it. It hit the limiter straight away in 1st, as if it was still in neutral....! then when changing from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th, it just kept hitting the limiter as if it was stuck in neutral? so i did infact just stick it in neutral for a few seconds, slowed right down, back into 1st, and all seemed fine, but even now, the clutch doesnt seem to bite as it should, and still get the grinding noise in 2nd/3rd

trip to the garage in order i think
