clutches go soft and when they're on the way out it feels like your riding the clutch all the time, the power drops and the car feels like its lost drive, if that made sense?? ... Has his clutch always been heavy ? my last clio (172) had a heavy clutch and I had no problems with that. :)

My clio has a heavy clutch and I thought that especially when I first got it.

TBH I would get the clutch replaced yet unless it wasn't working properly as there may be no need to get it replaced.

Performance clucth can be a lot heaver you might have one of the uprated one many people install.
The stock ones much better.

my cluch went really heavy, had a high bite point then just started slipping, stick it in 4th of 5th at 30mph and floor it and see if it slips or not.

Clutch is really heavy, been through 2 seperate clutches chasing the problem, and no changem, although after havign gone througha few cables it tends to get heavier before the cable goes, as often it frays and rubs on the outer sleaving, carry a spare cluutch cable wiht you and if you are with teh AA etc get them to chnmage it at the road side, piece of piss to do, if you have hands like a child, or very long screwdrivers, lol

  Valver
Chris mate I swear I told you before, but im 90% sure its because your haven't got a genuine renault cable. I had a non-genuine one on my old RT and it was about as heavy as yours, soon as I fitted a Renault one it was much lighter!

If it's a none std cable then your lucky it worked at all. Has to be a genuine Renault part for your specific car. Don't waste your time with one from Halfords, I did and lost best of a day wondering why my car didn't work. Fitted the right part and it felt like new!

how easy is it to fit one of these cables, if you have never messed around with the pedals etc before, or the box for that matter

oh, and didnt they change the cable on the valver ?.....its design ?.........or was that the pedal itself

Not to bad just takes a while to get your hands in the right place.
If your going to do it lie down in the footwell with your feet on the roof (you'll understand when you do it). Its just fiddly though. Also if you do it remember to stick a pit of sting etc on the old cable when you pull it though where the pedals go as you can use thhis to attach the new cable to when your pulling it back in.

Guessing he meant piece of string. Never changed the cable on a clio, but sometimes those wire coat hangers, pieces of wire etc will do too. Anything that can hook on the new cable and be pulled through the hole

It's easier than that. No need to ruin a good coat hanger I think. Do it during daylight and if you are looking from under the wheelarch (removing the wheel makes the job easier) you'll see the hole clearly in the bulkhead. Hardest part is getting the cable through the small white hook on top of the pedal. Just be systematic about it and you'll be fine. Make sure you route in the right way to the bell housing. On the old forum there was a good guide to this.

I used a Halfords cable when mine went cus it was teh onyl thign i coudl get at teh time, being sunday and it was lighter then teh genuine renault cable on there, i used a long extension/screwdriver to poke it up through teh hole, its a right c**t and a half to get up there
