Colour coding side strips

Can someone please clear up for me how to colour code my bump strips/handles and bumpers please. I have been to halfords today and got the primer/paint and laquer.

So how do i get the bumpstrips off? and do i need to?

How many coats of each do i need to put on and will it work without primer of will the paint flake off?

Sorry bout the long post. Cheers Phil

Nooo....dont do it! Ill tell you how to if you want, but unless you really know what youre doing, its a pain in the arse. Specially after someone opens a door into the strip and chips the paint. Then you either have to remove all the paint or try and patch it up again. Both methods suck.

If you still want to know though....

you need the special red plastic primer for tha paint to hang onto the flexing plastic. Bumper can stay on, but mask off the rest of the car. Bumpstrip will need to be removed.
1st, clean and sand down with coarse wet&dry. Clean again. Primer, 3 coats & 15 mins inbetween to dry. When done, wet&dry the primered surface till smooth, with fine (2600) wet&dry. Make sure not to rub it all off though. Spray colour paint on top, i did 3-4 coats so its well thick and shiney. again, wet&dry surface (dont worry about it, it will shine up with laquer). Then laquer on top (after 24 hours to dry colour paint) i also did 4 -5 thin coats. When dry, use something like autoglym poilish, or some sort of super polish stuff, and rub hard till it shines.
JOB DONE

Cheers Ben but how do i get the bumpstrips off? and how do i get the door handles off or can i do these when they are still on?

bumpstrips you slide a bit either way, then they just come off. Take the door handles off, but you have to take off the interior door trim. just undo all the screws, then lift up and it will slot out...then unclip the door handles from behind.

Clio novice - How BenR has told you: that is exactly what I did to mine. Some gimp opened their door into my bump strip and now I have a large ugly hole in the bumpstrip paint on the drivers door. As I am selling the car I am having to replace them. Andyspares couldnt get me any and Renault are charging me £86 for now ones.

Dont say I didnt warn you.....
