Things you can do:

Check all your bulbs, horn, wipers function well, check your tyres. They will do a brake test and emissions test. If you're car sits for long periods of time readings may be slighly higher and if it has a de-cat you are looking at a fail. If you are interested I can post the details of the limits printed on my emission test results. I doubt your car will fail on this though.

You could, if bothered, check any play in steering / suspension (grab top + bottom of wheel (jacked up) and feel for play) rust should not be a problem on your car but I'll mention it anyway; structural rust within (i'm not 100% sure) 7cm of any anchor point, hole in structural sections, excessive rust on brakes (including disks) is a fail / they will mention.
At some garages it's a visual check apart from the emissions + brakes.

Cups not having the brake compensater valve connected on the back axle

Little things they can pick up, tyre wear uneven, chips in windscreen (if bigger than 10mm radius) within drivers view, headlamp alignment. MK2 Clios shouldn't be rusting already really

You may not beleive this but I had a failure with one of my R5's all it was , was that the passenger side windscreen washer jet was not hitting the windscreen full on (that was outrageous) I asked him why didn't you stick a pin in the jet and adjust it. He said he wasn't allowed to. Totally Anal.
Needless to say that was the last time I took my car there for a test.

Yes! They neeed to gain access to inspect for deterioration etc.

No! Dont reply unless you know for a fact, one reason this part of the forum gets ripped by others, is this need for misinformation and posting just for the sake of it.
