Compensator valve issue

  172 Rally Car
Has anyone tryed to uprate/replace/add another spring to the compensator valve?

When bleeding the rear of my cup this afternoon i found the brakes only work effectivly when the valve is in the "up" position - set it to that, apply the brakes and they work. But if you release the brakes and re apply then they dont.

I put this down to the spring that returns the valve to the "up" position having gone weak so i would think my answer maybe is to replace that spring?

What do you recon?

Had the same problem on my cup, turned out to be the compensator valve had seized and wouldnt work properly as its used very little. Heard some people cable tie it up which is a quick fix but i wouldnt recommend u do this in winter unless you want a serious backend under braking powerslide into a tree and the car blows up in a ball of flames

A new valve is £160 + vat so try and find a working second hand jobbie if it is seized

They should have a spring on them to return them to the up position. When the brakes are applied, the piston inside moves to reduce the pressure to the rear brakes. It should always return though, so it's possibly seizing up. Mines fixed in the shut position for maximum rear brake effort.
