Components Vs Fullrange

Hey everybody!

In my clio there are tweeters in the dash, so I guess it would be pretty easy as long as I can get the dash off, to upgrade to components. I dont plan to amp them up, so I was wondering if the sound quality will be just as good with a set of fullrange speakers in the doors?

get those tweeters changed...components sound far better...also you should maybe thing about amping them

Why are the factory fit front speakers not already classed as components?

I mean, the tweeter is separate from the woofer...isnt that, by definition, a component set?

yes it is a component set, but deemed to be separate speakers by factor they have no crossover linking the two units

Ok, but the tweeter has an in-line capacitor. Thats pretty much the same thing, only obviously not as good because the woofer is still pumping out the full range.

Im sure they must be other cheap, so called component speakers, that use the same sort of setup? Ive as set of co-ax speakers in the rear of my car that have a crossover box, so the crossover itself surely cant determine what makes a set of speakers a component set.

Getting back to the original post, I think it would be fairly pointless spending out money for a proper set of speakers and then not amping them. If I remember correctly, the standard HU in a billabong gives out 20 wpc or something? Only by having the factory 40wpc sound upgrade would it almost be worth doing. I believe when you have that upgrade, they fit the same stereo / speakers as youd get in the standard 172.

I havent got the standard headunit in my clio, so it should be powerful enough (52w x 4) to get decent performance out of some components.

Components always- you can change the sound stage. Having a full range speaker in the door means the sound is all low down in the car, Placing some tweeters higher up in the car will raise the stage also high frequencies are directional and low frequencies arent. If your tweeters arent pointing at you they arent doing their job. It also takes less power to get good sound from a good set of componants than a good set of full range e.g if you have a 3-way 6x9 and a 2-way you will always get more bass from the 2-way and if you use a crossover you take the higher frequencies away and use them in some tweeters and you are using no more power but have better sound.

I could go on all day sorry if you dont understand what im saying i know what i mean.

I just bought a head unit with no internal amp because i cant bear to burden it like that, RB_172 is right once again you need to do it properley and use a decent amp with decent speakers.
