Been offered:

P4 2.4ghz, 256ram, cd drive, FD, 20gig HD, keyboard, mouse and 17 inch crt HP compaq EVO 310 with XP pro fully licensed for £50.

also offered the same spec as above with a P4 1.8ghz for £40.

good value or not?

So yes is a good deal. Id buy a couple and ebay one as a package. Will essentially give you a free machine

yeah my comp is only a 1.4ghz athlon jobbie form bout 5 years ago so i thought it could be a good way to get a new one for not a lot of money...

would i be able ot whack in some more ram, graphics card and HD cheaply on the 2.4ghz one?

yeah get a few at £50 bargain, if u keep one up the ram and you're laughing.

xp pro license is worth hundreds alone surely

cool, i'll see how many i can get really, as my flat mate wants one and so do i, but i don't think i'll be able to buy more than two really as they will get in a huff probably...

Can't believe they're selling them so cheap, there's my poor tax money going down the drain . Incidentally, where does the money go? Does it go back into police coffers or into the doughnut kitty?

And yes, you should be able to upgrade it for not very much.

there probably wouldn't be anything at all on the HD as all my files are kept on the server and not the computer for example, but yes, there are some 'old warriors' who have no idea with computers who save their stuff everywhere! lol

i also have no idea where the money goes... i guess it will just go back into the ITsupport accounts for new comps etc.

doubt it, if its fully licensed that probably only means its an OEM which can't be transferred, thats unless its a FPP and even then, doubt they will have the license to hand over, its only fully licensed if you have either the license in your hand or the oem sticker on the machine.
