Configuring Wireless Network, Help?

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4
Basically, this is what I have :

Main PC upstairs with telephone connection next to it going straight into 4 port ADSL modem (NETGEAR DG814, 1 lan connection going connection to main PC (router 192.168.0.1), being used a DHCP server for other lan devices (no problem) internet connection fine.

I now have a wireless NETGEAR WGT624 4 port lan router with 1 port for internet connection, not interested in connecting lan devices, just want it to provide wireless devices with internet access, router is set as default to use 192.168.0.1 (as DG814) so change this to use 192.168.0.2 (both devices set to be DHCP server and DHCP setup correctly not to issue 192.168.0.2 to a PC) but this doesn't make the internet connection available for wireless devices when attached?

Is this the right way to setup the DHCP? or should only one router act as the DHCP server? sometimes an internet connection is provided for the wireless when configured like this, but when restarting the main pc the connection is lost?

Are you using both wireless devices at the same time, then? Using DHCP on both as a server option isn't a good idea - especially when wireless is involved. The other thing you could do would be to setup a DHCP scope and exclude maybe the first 10 IP addresses - using .1 - .10 purely for networking kit?

How is your internet connection handled? You say your PC is upstairs - did the DG814 connect to the internet originally via an analogue line + ADSL filter? If that socket and lead is still there (even if disconnected) it will still require an ADSL filter to be attached on the end.

phone line > filter > dg814 > cat 5 > main pc (FINE)

try to add wireless router to that configuration, making sure each router (1 lan, 1 wlan) has a different IP address and both of their DHCP scopes doesn't conflict with these addresses, cat 5 > lan router into wlan router to provide internet access. Connection fine initally, reboot main PC, connection gone for wireless devices.
