Confused about Waxing :P

  Titanium 182 FF
I'm just trying to get my head around the vast array of products you can detail the car with. I was wondering how often you 1. should wax the car with something such as P21?
2. Will the wax wash off the next time i come to wash the car?
3. After you have waxed it what would be the best thing to do next time you come to clean your car: would going over with a QD after washing be correct? or a proper polish and then wax again?

Cheers, sorry for being a noob :rasp:

P21s is a good looking wax, but is not very durable, be looking at reapplying about once a month.

If you happy with the paintwork condition (i.e no defects etc) no need to re-polish every month, just reapply another coat of wax. I try to limit polishing to once or twice a year.

After washing a good QD should restore the gloss, as long as you use a decent car wash it should not wash off the Wax.

When you say polishing Rich, do you mean using SRP? I thought you do it everytime you wash :S

I think Rich is talking about about polishes that are much more aggressive that SRP, and remove alot more clearcoat, so their usage should therefore be limited to a couple of times a year. SRP would be safe to use after every wash, but would be a waste IMO, as long as you were using the correct washing and drying techniques.

SRP is safe to do each time you wash BUT there should be no need though, good wash technique and you should not need to use it more than 2/3 times a yea certainly not ever time you wash - once a month tops.

Remember every time you use SRP it strip everything off your paint meaning you need to start from scratch - building up a few layers of wax will give decent protection and better looks.
