Converting fog lights to side lights?

  133, 182, Kangoo 182
I've seen a few people with this on the forum but can't find the topics for them.

I was wondering how I would go about putting side light bulbs in my fog lights so that I could have them on (not necessarily always on by the way...) without blinding other people, just so there's a little bit of light down there.

Any help would help.

Cheers,
Matt.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it says so in my first post.

If you don't agree with it then please don't bother posting. I'm looking for help not abuse. ;)

In a weird kinda way i reckon this could look good, a bit like the new minis that have a separate sidelight in the bumper.

i dont think this counts as abuse!!

anyway you would have to modify the bulb holders to accomodate the lower wattage bulbs... the voltage is still the same tho
I'm sure some people will want to.

I thought wattage didn't matter (ie. changing a bulb in the house to a lower wattage energy bulb)?

Yeah I think so would look nice providing you had the right bulbs.

but surly if you prove there not fogs you could technicaly get away with it

Would be interested to see how difficult this would be?

Also is it law that sidelights need to be amber/orange in colour???

I would suggest not playing with this idea mate.

If the police see you with lights on in your fog light lenses, they will pull you over for having your fog lights on. If you argue that they aren't fog light bulbs, you will be seen to be arguing to get out of the fine/endorsable offence, in which case they will definitely book you.

Leave them be chap.

I think if you explained politely that a conversion had been carried out and that the bulbs are indeed sidelights......the wattage rating (5w) is usually printed or stamped on bulbs too which you could unplug and show to the officer to prove the point......I dont see the harm in pointing it out.

Obviously if you get angry with the officer, things will not turn out well......

Good outcomes of police encounters = be polite and friendly, and be happy to listen to what they have to say.

Also if they did wrongly book you, take a trip to a reputable garage, get them to have a engineer write a note on headed paper, confirming the fitment of low wattage, non-fog (high wattage) bulb. Make an appeal against the ticket, and produce the engineer note.

I agree you could argue JD: by not fitting them in the firstplace and keeping your fogs switched off and legal may save you the hassle......

Had a think about it and actually agree with you guys. Especially for the hastle involved in doing it, I wouldn't want any more trouble with the rozzers.

Cheers.

Very much agree chap, but as you have said, really don't think it is worth the hassle.
