Coolant change and flush on a Mk1 1.4 RT

  S2000
How do I go about doing this and flushing out the system. I was having a look at the Haynes manual earlier and it said that you had to take off the bottom hose of the radiator and undo a draing plug of some sort on the back of the engine.

What I was wondering though is whether or not you have to undo the drain plug on the back of the engine or if simply taking off the bottom hose of the radiator is enough?

Also, to flush the system do you have to remove the thermostat as it says in the haynes or can you just put the garden hose in one of the hoses from the expansion tank until you get clear water flowing from the other hose?

Thanks.

Just dragging this post up again. So I take it that I don't have to worry about the thermostat or the drain plug on the back of the engine?

Is it necessary to remove the front bumber on an RT? I can't look just now because I'm at Uni and my car is at home.

So what I should do is:
  • Disconnect bottom hose and let it all run out
  • Remove expansion tank and reconnect bottom rad hose. Put garden hose in the top expansion tank hose until it runs clear out of the other one and then put the garen hose in the bottom one until it runs out the top hose clear.
  • Drain the ware as was done with the coolant before (bottom rad hose)
  • Put in new water and coolant to bewetween the max/min mark then open the bleed screw on the radiator until the coolant comes out of it in a continuous stream.
  • Top up expansion tank again and then run engine at about 1.5K revs for 10 minutes, top up again and then put cap back on expansion tank.
The above is kind of taken from a combination of different things I have read so I just wanted to check that that would give it a good flush. I don't know how I will manage to get the old stuff into some sort of container though as I don't want to let it go down the drive and onto the street if it can damage paintwork. Any suggestions?
