Coolant Level / Top Up

  1.8 Civic EX
r****d question of the day goes to me I think but just want to be sure!

I noticed this morning that the level on the bottle is just over the min line. Going to top it up later. Given the weather being so cold right now will it be ok just to top it up with water as it obviously has some form of antifreeze in already. And being a cheap arse I don't want to go and fill it up with stuff I have to pay for to find out it's low due to a leak and end up having to buy more stuff.

It'll be fine to use just water to bring it to the line. dont keep doing it though as you will end up just water in it and no antifreeze.

As above. Unless it's currently more than -18, you should have no issues.

I only ever mix my coolant 1/3 coolant to 2/3 water and it's fine..

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
assuming it's got the correct anti-freeze in it still, the correct D-type isn't at all expensive in pre-mixed form. It's all I use now

cheers guys.

I've got no idea whats in it now though, always been done by garages as part of services etc, never done it myself as I've never needed to before (which is why I think I may have a leak) but saying that, surely if it was leaking there would be none in the bottle at all?!

Remember, antifreeze will have corrosion inhibitors in them also to stop and corrosion occuring in your block so best to use the correct type of antifreeze.

Bought a 5 litre bottle of genuine pre mixed Renault type d the other day. Cost exactly a tenner.

Double check to confirm but iirc: blue is type d, red is oat
